Controls Engineer: Reading, PA
Job Description:
As a Controls Engineer, you will collaborate on the design and implementation of ERP+MES functionality to enhance manufacturing intelligence, operational efficiency, and process integration. You will ensure seamless integration between shop floor systems and other control systems across multiple manufacturing sites. Additionally, you will develop strategies for data acquisition, analysis, and visualization to improve real-time decision-making and process optimization. Providing on-site and remote support to global operations teams and ensuring compliance with internal and external standards and cybersecurity protocols are also key aspects of this role. You will work closely with manufacturing, scheduling, procurement, engineering, and IT teams to align technology solutions with business goals. Training and mentoring junior engineers and technicians will be an important part of your responsibilities to ensure best practices are followed.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate on the design and implementation of ERP+MES functionality to enhance manufacturing intelligence and operational efficiency.Ensure seamless integration between shop floor systems and other control systems across multiple manufacturing sites.Develop strategies for data acquisition, analysis, and visualization to improve real-time decision-making and process optimization.Provide on-site and remote support to global operations teams while continuously seeking new opportunities for system improvements.Ensure all SCADA systems comply with internal and external standards and cybersecurity protocols.Work closely with manufacturing, scheduling, procurement, engineering, and IT to align technology solutions with business goals.Train and mentor junior engineers and technicians to ensure best practices are followed.Essential Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical, Controls, Industrial, etc.) or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred but not required.Minimum of 5 years of experience in a SCADA engineering role with a focus on manufacturing environments.Proven experience with MES implementations and knowledge of relevant technologies.Strong understanding of PLC programming, data acquisition, and industrial network architecture.Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Experience with schematic design and Wonderware.Industrial Engineering or Electrical Engineering degree.5-10+ years of SCADA experience supporting manufacturing.Work Environment:
This will be a first shift role sitting onsite at a manufacturing facility. The environment ranges from loud and somewhat dirty areas due to heavy and thin gauge thermoforming to clean room conditions. Business casual attire is expected. The engineering team onsite includes a dozen professionals such as engineering managers, electrical engineers, quality engineers, manufacturing engineers, and plastics engineers.
