Engineers in the Manufacturing Technology & Engineering division work in a vibrant and dynamic environment. Our engineers travel extensively throughout North America, primarily East Coast of the US, to various manufacturing facilities. Engineers work on assigned projects in support of the engineering portfolios of all of our divisions. Corning NY is home base. Some projects will be completed locally. Frequently, our engineers work within manufacturing facilities through process engineering, equipment design and installation, measurements systems, and software applications for manufacturing. In this role you will serve as an electrical controls resource for manufacturing process improvement and capital expansion projects. You will manage electrical and controls scope of assigned projects. Project focus will be implementation of PLC based automation in Corning's manufacturing plants and processes.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities Be assigned to engineering project teams that are responsible to deliver robust, cost effective automation and process machine systems to Corning’s manufacturing plants and processes Work with project team to solve difficult automation problems, resolve project related issues, and develop fundamental understanding of technical / process requirements critical to system success Participate in the development of control architectures, control functional specification, and system integration requirements that will satisfy process and manufacturing requirements Interface with external system integrators and machine builders to successfully deliver fully integrated process equipment systems to Corning’s plants on-time, on-budget, and that satisfy performance measures Actively participate in all phases of the project including design, fabrication, off-line integration and testing, installation, production start-up support, training of plant personnel, and technology transfer Report on project activities on a pre-determined basis. Ensure results meet the customer’s requirements as well as applicable national and international equipment design standards. Requirements BS in Computer or Electrical Engineering 0-2 years electrical/controls experience Solid understanding of fundamental engineering principles Excellent verbal and written communications skills Excellent problem-solving skills Results oriented and high level of dedication. Able to work in any stage of innovation and handle risk of failure Aim to learn new technologies and processes quickly Understands how to balance pursuit of fundamental understanding with driving forward business needs Able to work effectively in a team environment Familiar with Programmable Logic Controllers(Rockwell or Siemens) or devices such as Arduino and Raspberry Pi Familiar with control systems design, programming, and closed loop control systems Familiar with network design and addressing Ability to work in a team based environment Sound problem solving and decision making processes and skills Familiar with 2D or 3D design software such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks Knowledge of programming languages such as C#, Python, HTML, MATLAB Ability to interpret and modify electrical schematics Desired Skills Manufacturing experience or desire to work in a manufacturing environment. Exposure to robotics Knowledge of control theory and control strategies Experience with PID Controls and control loop tuning Ability to interpret and modify electrical schematics

The range for this position is $68,419.00 - $94,077.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
