RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for producing quality design of the PLC-based control system, motion, and electrical systems for custom equipment and machines. This position reports directly to the Controls Engineering Team Leader. Will interface with Manufacturing Engineer, Process Engineer, Plant Engineer, Shop Supervisors, the Tool Room, and the Maintenance Staff. JOB DUTIES: + Committed to ensuring the achievement of continuous improvement within area of expertise, as well as areas of business in order to remain at the forefront of meeting Company objectives, thus proactively satisfying customers. + This position mandates that all required safety classes, trainings, and certifications be completed and maintained within the specific position/department. + Is aware of relevance and importance of their activities and how they contribute to the achievement of the quality objectives. + This position requires an employee to work their regularly scheduled shift; ability to work overtime and weekends. + Must be aware of and comply with related ISO/IATF procedures, as applicable. + Must meet qualitative and quantitative standards for the position and department. + Design controls and equipment. Program PLC controls, HMI systems, SQL, and VBA, for proper function. Develop databases as required for proper data storage. + Designs, develops, and modifies electrical and electronic drawings using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical for equipment and facilities. Follow standard drawing and electrical practices. + Perform the necessary calculations to assure electrical safety in equipment design. + Assist Plant Engineering with keeping building and equipment drawings current and accurate. + Develop and implement the controls design, electrical design, and project plans per guidelines. + Assist in resolving problems, delays, and difficulties; notifies Plant Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering of problems. + Interpret customer-specific programming requirements, select correct hardware, and program machine controls based on proven best practices and customer specifications. + Collaborate with mechanical design to specify and approve main electrical enclosures, and junction box panel outlays. + Develop controls designs and analyze expected costs to ensure that the design solutions are implemented accurately and within budget. + Debug and optimize the machine controls to achieve specified machine functionality and required cycled times. + Collaborate effectively with other team members to ensure that the controls design will meet stakeholder needs (Customer, Project Manager, Design Engineers, Machine Builders). + Ensure the released bill of materials accurately accounts for all electrical components required. + Facilitate purchasing and track necessary controls and electrical components and materials as needed to meet project timelines. Monitor timing and notify the team for items that will affect timeline. + Provide technical support to external and internal customers and may assist with machine installation at customer locations. + Contribute to the effectiveness of the McGard Quality Management System (QMS) by following all defined processes and producing the required records. + Review basic pneumatic and hydraulic power schematics to ensure intended control can be achieved. + This job description in no way states or even implies that these are the only duties to be performed by this employee. EDUCATION &/ OR EXPERIENCE: + Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and orally. + High school diploma or general education degree (GED). + Two (2) year degree with minimum four (4) years of relevant experience. + Four (4) year degree with minimum three (3) years of relevant engineering experience. + High electrical aptitude. + Ability to problem solve and have an innovative approach.
