Job Description
Ensure compliance with Global Vehicle Operations Structured Standards (VOSS). Review supplier tooling and conveyor designs for compliance with VOSS standards for both hardware and programming. Develop and propose enhancements for cost, quality, and performance. Lead capital project teams, develop capital appropriations requests, and manage projects from concept through costing for controls related to tooling and conveyors. Lead risk assessment for controls programming and hardware changes. Assist in the training of manufacturing personnel and plant electricians. Integrate controls into IT systems like Factory Information Systems (FIS), Error Proofing, and Next Generation Automated Vehicle Scheduling.
ResponsibilitiesEnsure compliance with Global Vehicle Operations Structured Standards (VOSS).Review supplier tooling and conveyor designs for VOSS compliance.Approve or reject deviations from VOSS standards.Develop and propose enhancements for cost, quality, and performance.Review new controls concepts and designs.Develop and implement improvements to control systems and equipment using Factory Information Systems (FIS) data.Lead capital project teams and manage projects from concept through costing.Write scopes of work for controls in tooling and conveyors.Lead risk assessments for controls programming and hardware changes.Write functional descriptions and develop tooling and conveyor scopes of work.Assist plants and implementation teams in resolving tooling and conveyor performance issues.Lead troubleshooting efforts and coordinate resources to find root causes and fixes.Assist in the training of manufacturing personnel and plant electricians.Integrate controls into IT systems like Factory Information Systems (FIS), Error Proofing, and Next Generation Automated Vehicle Scheduling.Essential SkillsAutomation and controls engineering experience.Experience with Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLCs.Experience leading a controls engineering project.Automotive manufacturing experience, preferably in a final assembly plant.Problem-solving skills using statistics (6 Sigma Black Belt preferred).Ability to lead 8D and 5 Why initiatives.Project management skills.Systems engineering skills (both electrical and mechanical).Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a minimum of 5 years of controls experience.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with Factory Information Systems (FIS).Experience with risk assessments for controls programming and hardware changes.Experience in writing scopes of work for controls in tooling and conveyors.Work Environment
Travel within the US and Mexico for installation, launch support, and issue resolution. Travel up to 70% or more may be required to support launches (11-13 days at a time, followed by an extended weekend). Shift flexibility is required for large projects outside of normal production hours, primarily during the second shift/afternoons. Work hours are 60 hours per week, typically 6 days at 10 hours per day. Travel will be dedicated to specific locations based on the program being supported, including various assembly plants in the US, Canada, and Mexico.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.87 - $46.89/hr.
