Controls Engineer
Job Title: Electrical Systems EngineerJob Description This is a multi-disciplinary position responsible for the design, operation, installation, and testing of low-power electrical systems. The role involves managing ground support control and instrumentation systems for the fueling and operation of launch vehicles/spacecraft, supporting launch day activities, and working with ground support equipment (GSE). Responsibilities + Design, operate, install, and test low-power electrical systems. + Manage ground support control and instrumentation systems for launch vehicles/spacecraft. + Involve in the build, checkouts, and troubleshooting of GSE. + Operate, upgrade, and maintain data acquisition system hardware at launch and support sites. + Control and maintain network infrastructure interfaces to data acquisition systems. + Build and design junction boxes and conveyances for end instruments. + Create electrical schematics for new instrumentation. + Verify the functionality of end instruments using electrical equipment in the field. + Maintain systems through a preventative maintenance program. + Address physical installation issues and wear/tear/corrosion of electrical components. + Write procedures for routine tasks and off-nominal troubleshooting steps. + Provide innovative solutions to special requirements and challenges faced by the team. + Perform basic electrical installation of valves, limit switches, potentiometers, etc. + Design, build, and operate servo motor controls. Essential Skills + Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline. + 5+ years of professional experience with instrumentation power systems design and/or data acquisition systems. + 5+ years of professional experience with low-power systems and/or DC circuits or filters. + Proficiency in PLC programming. + Experience with Autocad and EPLAN. + Proficiency in Python, SQL, HTML, and MS Excel. + Experience with Modbus and programmable logic controllers (PLC). Additional Skills & Qualifications + Proficiency or hands-on experience in electronics test rack design and build, data acquisition setup and field measurements, and building electronics systems or test systems for local assembly or industrial applications. + Experience in robotics, automotive, aircraft, marine, autonomous vehicles, RF or communication systems, power plant or chemical process type industrial systems. + Experience with electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and power supplies. + Ability to collaborate with a wide range of people and effectively work in a team. + Ability to perform in a high-pressure, dynamic environment. + Ability to juggle a multitude of tasks simultaneously. + Ability to work in a fast-paced, autonomously driven, and demanding atmosphere. + Sound verbal and written communication skills. + Enjoys field work and getting hands dirty. + Experience working at a rocket launch facility and supporting launch campaigns. Work Environment The work environment involves working with various technologies and equipment, including data acquisition systems, PLCs, and electrical test equipment. The role requires field work, often in challenging installation locations and blast environments. The atmosphere is fast-paced and demanding, requiring the ability to juggle multiple tasks and perform under high pressure. Collaboration with a wide range of team members is essential. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $52.00 - $72.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
