Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Position Purpose:
Serve as an electrical controls resource for process improvement, cost reduction and capital expansion projects. Manage electrical and controls scope of assigned projects. Participate in project teams and support daily manufacturing operations by providing technical support to plant’s various control systems. These controls solutions may be for systems to deliver and transform raw materials to product, convey ware between discrete processing steps, and/or measure and characterize ware created and/or processed by these novel manufacturing methods.
Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering At least 2 years of relevant work experience Ability to program in ladder logic, structured text and function block Strong fundamental understanding of electrical design practices, control systems integration, controls architectures, programmable logic controller, (PLC) electro-mechanical drive systems, vision system, risk assessment and safety systems
Desired:
Experience in programmable logic controller (PLC) programming (AB Studio 5000 preferred) Able to design, configure, and implement Human Mahine Interface (HMI) programming (GE iFix preferred) Project management skills Knowledge of cable manufacturing process and equipment Manufacturing experience and ability to work in a manufacturing environment Knowledge of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), VB.NET and PI Data Historian AutoCAD Electrical
Responsibilities:
Integrates field devices for flow control, material handling and metering, motion control, temperature control, and associated safety systems into an overall controls package enabling a fully functional equipment platform Work closely with IT & process engineers to define analog & digital channel requirements, control sequence logic (both time-based and event-based), fail-safe states and process /equipment recovery sequences Select and specify field devices to accomplish desired process / equipment functions, and compatible / compliant with site standards Work closely with Engineering project team and eventual Production Operation receivers to determine design requirements and constraints Accurately estimates timeframe to complete project work, once scope of work is adequately defined, then completes work to agreed-to timeline Designs control solutions vice replicating and/or scaling existing equipment designs Provide electrical and controls engineering and equipment technical expertise in fiber optic cable manufacturing in support of production, maintenance, continuous improvement, cost reduction, and productivity improvement

The range for this position is $85,524.00 - $117,596.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
