We are seeking a Converting Controls Engineering Technician for our First Quality Tissue plant. This position will be located in Anderson, SC. Converting Controls Engineering Technicians are responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining controls components and systems for production and associated utility equipment to insure highest reliability, proper line performance, and safe operation. Using advanced training, skills, and experience, provides training for other Controls Technicians, coordinates electrical PM programs, and makes complex changes in PLC, HMI, and Servo Drive Programming.

Primary responsibilities include:
• Observes all OSHA and company safety rules and uses the proper safety equipment at all times. Notifies team of potentially dangerous electrical hazards and takes immediate corrective action. Must be a leader in the area of safety for the converting area. Willing to take on the task of leading in safety day training.
• Demonstrates outstanding understanding of the National Electrical Code and promotes adherence to it.
• Has demonstrated a commitment to Precision and Quality work.
• Troubleshoots, repairs, replaces and calibrates electrical sensors including: photoelectric, inductive, capacitive, magnetic, pressure, temperature, weight and position sensors.
• Troubleshoots, repairs, replaces and commissions all electrical control devices including: AC drives, DC drives, Servo Controllers, contactors, motors, breakers, solenoids power supplies and indicator lights.
• Troubleshoots, repairs, replaces and commissions all PLC/HMI based hardware including: processors, discrete and analog I/O cards, power supplies, network adapters, Distributed I/O, dedicated operator interfaces such as Panelview, PC based interfaces and message displays such as Review.
• Diagnoses problems using laptop computers interfaced to PLC’s, HMI’s and servo systems utilizing electrical schematics, meters, oscilloscopes, and any additional resources available.
• Makes small program changes in PLC’s logic, HMI’s programs and servo controller logic to aid in the diagnosis and repair of machine problems.
• Makes wiring/programming changes on all production equipment as required.
• Performs electrical preventative maintenance at scheduled intervals as assigned.
• Ensures that best practices are incorporated into the training program.
• Develops and audits the training system to ensure consistency in training for Control Technicians.
• Qualifies team members in basic, intermediate and advanced qualifications for Control Technicians.
• Works closely with the training department to ensure LMS modules, Work Instructions and all other training materials are kept current.
• Is a recognized as a leader in the department who has demonstrated superior ability to train others.
• Can work flexible hours as demanded by the position.
• Assists Production, Maintenance, and Process & Project Engineers to meet daily priorities, coverage, and special projects.
• Assists with projects and equipment installations as necessary.
• Shares knowledge and techniques with team members and assists with training of new personnel.
• Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
The ideal candidate should possess the following:
• Has completed a minimum of a 2 year technical degree (Associates Degree in Mechatronics, IET, EET), and/or has 5+ years’ experience in industrial controls maintenance environment.
• Has fundamental knowledge of electrical theory and principles of operation.
o Solid knowledge of three phase, single phase and DC power.
o Familiar with NEC and standard wiring practices.
o Utilizes meters and oscilloscopes to identify electrical problems
o Reads electrical schematics
• Has advanced knowledge of all controller based hardware and software
o Reads and make small changes to PLC ladder logic.
o Reads and troubleshoot motion control/servo programs.
o Reads HMI software to identify its effects on the equipment.
o Follows data and signals from one controller to another over various networks.
• Standard knowledge of product specifications, quality requirements, production goals, efficiency and waste.
o Knows products specifications and the processes that affect them.
o Understands impact of downtime and waste on production efficiency.
• Makes quick and accurate electrical repairs and program changes.
o Must have in-depth knowledge of the production equipment and processes to identify a faulty device or program.
o Repairs must be thorough to prevent any further downtime.
• Is a recognized leader in the department.
• Can read and understand both P&ID’s and technical manuals.
• Has demonstrated excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Has demonstrated the ability to think systematically and to transfer knowledge to others.
• Has demonstrated a commitment to training other team members and is a recognized leader in this area.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
o Works closely with the production team to identify and resolve problems.
o Communicates with the parts department to ensure adequate spares.

• Good computer skills needed. (E-mail, Word, Excel, etc.)
