The Controls Systems Engineer will support automation initiatives within operations in Bloomington/Shakopee. Designing, developing, maintaining, and optimizing system infrastructures, including network, hardware, databases, and system software. The role will focus on enhancing production and business systems such as ERP, SCADA, CRM, MES, and WMS. Responsible for delivering technical solutions that promote system connectivity, automation, data analytics, and overall business operations optimization. This role offers an opportunity to take ownership of complex systems, support process improvements, and lead technical initiatives that contribute directly to the success of business operations and production.
Essential Functions Highlights:
System Architecture & Design:Develop system architecture that integrates multiple production and business systemsCollaboration & Best Practices:Work closely with global system owners, corporate IT teams and business stakeholders.Programming & Scripting:(SQL/Python) to develop software solutions and manage databases.Networking & Database Management:Manage and troubleshoot network infrastructure, database systems, and web servers.Software & Tool Development:Develop non-product software and internal tools for business operations.SCADA Development & Maintenance:Design, configure, and maintain SCADA systems using Ignition software.PLC Programming & Integration:Design and program Allen Bradley PLCs using ladder logic and structured textHMI Development:Create and modify Human Machine Interface (HMI) screens for operator interactionRequired Education:
2-year degree or associate’s degree in engineering or related field (computer science, robotics/electronics, IT technology, machining) or equivalent work experience.Preferred Education:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.Preferred Experience:
Manufacturing, Regulatory Compliance & LEAN Experience:Medical device manufacturing experience coupled with familiarity in LEAN methodologies and applying them to improve system processes. Knowledge of regulatory compliance in a manufacturing environment, particularly for medical devices.
Programming Languages:Advanced knowledge of SQL, Python, and scripting languages for system integration, database management, and automation.PLC & SCADA Systems:Comprehensive understanding of Allen Bradley PLC programming (Ladder Logic, Structured Text) and SCADA system design using Ignition software. Experience with configuring Ignition modules and devices for seamless integration.Networking & Communication:In-depth knowledge of networking protocols (VLAN, Ethernet/IP) and their use in transmitting data between systems and equipment.System Integration & Troubleshooting:Expertise in integrating diverse systems (ERP, MES, SCADA, internal applications) and troubleshooting system and communication failures to ensure consistent operationsTravel: Limited
