Controls Technician (Dairy Plant)

Utilize electrical, mechanical and controls knowledge and experience to troubleshoot and maintain as well as design and implement modifications to all aspects of electrical control systems, equipment, and machinery.  May be responsible for the installation and technical support of PLC based hardware and software, and must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures for electromechanical maintenance of industrial equipment.

Essential Duties: 

\n\nWorks within engineered plans to implement assigned projects, including maintaining a schedule and recommending expenditures within limitations of the project budget.\nAssists in development and implementation of software and hardware modifications to new or existing Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).\nProvides technical support and troubleshooting assistance for all equipment controls as it relates to the maintenance of the facility including maintenance and troubleshooting Allen Bradley PLCs.\nProvides reports on the status of project milestones and adjusts schedules accordingly.\nWill be assigned to specific phases or aspects of projects such as technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and product testing.\nCoordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.\nDevelops and provides training programs.\nEvaluates and recommends design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.\nInterfaces with customers to provide project status reports and ensure customer needs are met.\nAssembles wires, insulation, and electrical components, such as resistors and capacitors, following method layouts. \nInstalls electrical assemblies and hardware in housing. \nTests assembled instruments for circuit continuity and operational reliability. \nAnalyzes test results and repairs or adjusts instruments according to analysis. \nRecords test results and writes report on fabrication techniques used. \nCalibrates instruments according to specifications. \nOther duties may be assigned.\n\n

Qualifications: 

\n\nHigh School Diploma or GED.\nAssociates degree in a technical field or equivalent preferred; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.\nStrong working knowledge of controls equipment and devices such as AC/DC drives, PLC’s, Servos, HMI and control networks.\nProficient in the reading and understanding of control and electrical wiring diagrams\nKnowledge and utilization of Shamrock’s computerized maintenance management program. \nKnowledge of AC/DC current, line voltage and low voltage such as 3PH, 48OV, 277V, 24OV, 12V and transformers for equipment and the building.\nUnderstands operation and function of electrical components such as relays, contactors, starters, fuses, capacitors, and solenoids. \nAble to perform routine carpentry, plumbing, welding, and electrical jobs. \nAble to monitor reports and document the usage and replacement of spare parts. \nStrong working knowledge of standard, safe electrical practices using proven methods and NEC Code. \nAbility to operate metalworking machines, such as bench lathe, milling machine, punch press, and drill press to fabricate housings, fittings, jigs, and fixtures, and verifies dimensions. \nMust be flexible and willing to work the demands of the department which may be subject to evenings, weekends, and holidays.\n\n

\n\nRegularly stand and walk\nAbility to communicate when necessary to complete duties\nAbility to reach and handle objects, tools, or controls\nOccasionally climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. \nRegularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds \n\n
