JOB TITLE: Cook 1

DEPARTMENT: Kitchen

REPORTS TO: Manager or Designated Person

ESSENTIAL PURPOSE:

To prepare food for any of the following: restaurants, banquets, employee meals, pastries, and special events meeting company standards of production quality and quantity. To assume all duties of the supervisor in his/her absence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

To follow all recipes and/or specifications to properly and efficiently prepare and present all food items to be served, including accommodating special guest requests.To taste and monitor presentation, and ensure that appearance and quality are consistently maintained.To support kitchen employees to maintain highest possible levels of employee morale and department productivity.To ensure that proper portions of all items are served while adhering to culinary standards.To provide training to new and existing staff.To assist with the kitchen organization and to follow all specific procedures to open or close the kitchen.To take daily inventory of all items in the walk-in and assist, as directed, to order stock.To utilize FIFO to minimize waste and spoilage.To maintain internal cleanliness of work stations, walk-in and freezer.To communicate all guest requests to an appropriate supervisor in a timely and professional manner.To report to management all necessary equipment repairs for the safety of all personnel and the kitchen.To follow all policies and procedures of JC ResortsTo immediately report all suspicious occurrences and hazardousTo maintain the cleanliness and safety of work areas at allTo practice safe work habits at all times, to avoid injury to self and others.To comply with company and departmental safety rules and regulations, including the proper handling of all relevant equipment.To attend all mandatory meetings as directed.To perform other tasks, including cross-training, as directed.to read and organize BEO items and order tickets, as directed, to prepare food.

JOB KNOWLEDGE & EDUCATION LEVEL: Able to understand basic English and follow simple verbal directions. Must have advanced knowledge of production and operations in all relevant kitchen areas. Must be familiar with proper use and maintenance of relevant kitchen equipment and machinery. Kitchen experience and professional culinary certification or degree preferred. A minimum of 3 years culinary experience within restaurants or food service is required. A valid and current Food Handler’s Card is required as designated by local governance.

Courteous and friendly manner. Good team player. Customer service focus. Able to work productively with little supervision. Trustworthy and reliable.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Works both in and out-of-doors, depending on service needs. Frequently works behind hot range. Makes occasional short trips to walk-in freezer and refrigerator, and storeroom. Kitchen may be moist, odorous, and warm from cooking foods. Kitchen floor is uneven, and may be slippery from moisture and grease. Business levels may require fast work pace. Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Stands/walks short distances throughout shift. Bends, stoops, reaches, pushes, pulls, and lifts to perform routine job tasks. Frequently required to handle and move objects weighing up to 40 lbs. over short to moderate distances. Must be able to work under pressure.

NON-EXEMPT POSITION: Non-exempt employees are subject to the wage and hour laws and entitled to overtime pay. All overtime work by a non-exempt employee must be approved in advance by the employee’s supervisor, the General Manager, or other designated manager at the property. Non-exempt employees who work overtime without prior approval are subject to disciplinary action, including termination.

The expected base wage range for this position is: $18.50 to $20.50 per hour. This position may be eligible for additional compensation according to the Company’s policies, as they may be amended from time to time.
