Summary This position is located with the Division of Administration and Management, Nutrition Services Branch with the Gallup Indian Medical Center in Gallup, NM. The primary purpose of this position is to perform a full range of cooking procedures and provide quality food service to patients, families, guest and staff through food preparation, service and sanitation. Position is under the supervision of the Cook Supervisor. Responsibilities 06/05/2024: This position is being re-announced to solicit additional candidates. Prepares and cooks food from scratch, serves foods for complex and special diets based on menus, production sheets, kardex information and physician/ dietitian request. Plans, coordinates, and proportions ingredients in recipes. Reads and utilized standardized recipes. Follows measuring and preparation instructions. Makes judgment about recipes modification to net changes in number servings required. Adjust amounts and proportions, as needed. Performs food preparation and cooking tasks for all types of hot and cold menu items, using appropriate quantity cooking methods. Completes preparation duties for the following day. Assist cook leader or shift leader to coordinate and monitor work of lower grade employees. Uses established policies and procedures, maintains a sanitary, safe working environment for employees and food production. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Physical Efforts: Is able to frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted, and greater than 40 pounds assisted. Is able to work on ladders. Is subject to continuous standing, walking; and frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting and sitting. Performs heavy duty cleaning tasks using powered cleaning equipment, as appropriate. Working Conditions: Is regularly exposed to noise variations, hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot and cold working surfaces, extreme temperature changes, humidity, potentially hazardous chemicals, slippery floors, and enclosed areas. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Additional Information Per IHS policy (SGM 21-04) IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. No recruitment or relocation incentives authorized.
