SUMMARY OF JOB The cook is responsible for the preparation and presentation of attractive, nutritious meals for patient/resident meals, staff dining and special functions, as well as, the maintenance of sanitary conditions in the production area. In addition the cook may be responsible for the assembly and serving of customer and resident meals, the set up and break down of serving areas, and the sanitation of service wares. Some positions may be responsible for handling money. The person in this position must be able to work independently or as part of a team. CONNECTING TO MISSION: The primary purpose of this job position is to prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations, with our established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the Head Cook, Team Leader and/or Director of Dining Service to assure that quality food service is provided at all times. Under the supervision of the Team Leader is responsible for hot food preparation, including accompaniment and garnishes RECRUITMENT REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or equivalent highly desirable for anyone over the age of eighteen. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using of American money and weight measurement and volume. Ability to work safely using cut gloves Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be able to work multiple shifts and be flexible in scheduling. Comfortable working with the public and good customer service skills required. Previous food service experience highly desirable. LICENSE AND REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS: Complies with local, state and federal regulations related to food service and health care. Complies with DNV guidelines.
