**Job Type:** Regular **Time Type:** Part time **Work Shift:** Day (United States of America) **FLSA Status:** Non-Exempt **When you join the growing BILH team, you're not just taking a job, you’re making a difference in people’s lives.** 8hpw COORD. & INSTRUCTOR, COMMUNITY CHILDBIRTH EDU PRGM **Job Description:** **Duties/Responsibilities:** **Clinical Inquiry** _The ongoing process of questioning and evaluating practice to provide informed, evidence based care._ + Formulates and raises vital clinical questions and issues clearly and precisely + Brings community education issues to the attention of others when assistance is needed to facilitate resolution + Utilizes reliable sources for locating current standards of practice, research, evidence reports, literature, and clinical guidelines + Uses QI tools and methodologies to assess performance and identify gaps between current & best practice related to key clinical outcome measures + Establishes and maintains a system for assessment and evaluation of educational programming that complies with evolving regulatory agency requirements. **Clinical Scholarship** _Those activities which systematically advance the teaching, research, and practice of nursing through rigorous inquiry._ + Participates in the development and sustainability of standards for professional practice and maternal child health community nursing education programs designed to facilitate high quality patient care. + Actively builds effective interdisciplinary relationships to assure timely effective dialogue around community education needs in an effort to enhance evidence based, outcome driven patient care + Contributes to the design of a community education curriculum that is evidence based and reflects contemporary and innovative nursing practice + Maintains own clinical expertise and practices as an autonomous clinical decision maker within their scope of licensure, certification, and training. **Teaching / Learning** + Assesses community educational needs and develops and implements evidence based educational curricula to support accomplishment of annual educational goals + Incorporates principles of adult learning and multigenerational differences in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of education programs + Creates a learning atmosphere of respect, compassion, support and open dialogue to facilitate effective educational process. + Teaches classes related to the care of patients in maternal child health ensuring that education program materials include culturally appropriate and age specific content. + Uses instructional materials from various media and formats as appropriate to learning environment. + Refers women and their family members to additional resources as appropriate. + Recommends changes in educational goals, priorities, and/or strategies based on evaluation of effectiveness of educational programming using process and outcome data. + Facilitates the implementation of new health care technology through design of effective training programs and evaluation monitoring. + Demonstrates engagement in lifelong learning and independently identifies own learning needs; participates in educational activities to enable competent performance of assigned duties + Shares new knowledge or education outcomes at professional conferences and/or publishes in peer-review journals. **Authentic Leadership** _Ability to bring people together around a shared purpose and empower others to experience meaningful connections with patients/families and staff._ + Creates a learning environment that is capable of adapting to and sustaining change; is flexible and open to new ideas + Establishes collegial relationships with multidisciplinary team to promote a productive work environment. + Participates in the development, implementation and monitoring of practice standards to assure continuous improvement in the quality of service and care. + Supports the integration of quality, audit, evaluation data and research into practice and educational programs. + Facilitates teambuilding and leadership development and seeks out opportunities to serve as change leader for community health education program. + Hires, manages and evaluates performance of community education instructors. _It is understood that this is a summary of key job functions and does not include every detail of the job that may reasonably be required._ **Education/Experience Required:** + BSN required; Master’s degree preferred + Two years of progressively responsible education and/or leadership experience + Five years of recent maternal child health nursing experience + Demonstrated ability to apply principles of adult learning to the development of effective staff, patient and/or family education programs. + Experience in program development and evaluation + Analytical ability to solve systems issues, interpret available data and design/conduct quality improvement projects. + Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving ability + Organizational skill to appropriately set priorities and efficiently complete work + Advanced verbal, interpersonal, and writing skills in order to perform required leadership duties + Demonstrated ability as an effective public speaker and presenter + Computer proficiency inclusive of ability to access and enter and retrieve data from computerized information systems e.g. Meditech and Microsoft Office programs + Willingness to work flexible hours to meet education needs of the community and staff + Consistently demonstrates the Core values of Beth Israel Deaconess Plymouth + Comply with all applicable Beth Israel Deaconess Plymouth policies and procedures + Physical ability to perform core job responsibilities in accordance with practice setting demands for patient and staff populations regularly served + Occasional travel may be required to facilitate collaboration with entities across BID system or attend external meetings. **Registration/Certification:** + Current RN license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts + Completion of one of the following programs: + Boston Association for Childbirth Education (BACE) + Certified Childbirth Education (CCE) + International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA)- this is the preferred program + BLS Certification from American Heart Association program + NRP instructor level certification is preferred + Educator certification (NPD) preferred **Physical/Environmental Requirements** This job requires frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking and lifting over 10 lbs. There will be occasional need for climbing stairs, lifting in excess of 50 – 100 lbs and sitting. Constant use of hearing, sight and speech. Frequent use of smell and touch. Frequent keyboard and telephone use.
