Job Overview:

The Coordinator will be responsible for preparing, sterilizing and maintaining surgical instruments and equipment. This role coordinates instrument repairs, manages vendor loaners, and ensures proper inventory levels to support daily surgical operations. The Coordinator will operate sterilization equipment, follow strict safety and infection control protocols, and work closely with OR staff to meet surgical needs.

Qualifications:

Required:

High School Diploma or equivalentAt least 3 years work related experience in a Sterile Processing department

Preferred:

Associates Degree or higher in allied health related field

Certifications and Licenses Required:

CRCST - Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician through IAHCSMM or CBSPD CIS - Certified Instrument Specialist

Essential Functions:

Responsible for updating count sheets, adding and deleting items/equipment, ordering replacement scanners and equipment, and some maintenance of equipment as needed, to keep the system running at 100% at all timesResponsible for coordinating the repair of special equipment including scopes. Tracks all repairs via an electronic log and inform each service line Manager or Coordinator of items going out and anticipated return. Responsible for repairs being returned to the proper setEstablishes and maintains a process for the use of loaner instrumentation, coordinates with the OR and CSP on all pertinent information relating to the use of the loaner instrumentationAct as a resource for clinical staff with regards to instrumentationDemonstrates the awareness of safety, security, life safety, preparedness and utility and equipment management policies competenciesAdheres to Standard PrecautionsAdheres to Safety and Infection Control policiesAttends mandatory in-servicesHelps maintain a safe and clean patient/work environmentFollows incident reporting proceduresEnsures that appropriate standards of practice follow corporate compliance guidelines, acts in an ethical and legal manner, and assures that all actions are in the best interest of the hospital. The results of accreditation surveys and licensure reviews by NJSDOH and JCAHO are satisfactoryDevelops a feasible system to establish and maintain an OR peel pack cart as well as adequate back-up inventory and will order all instruments as neededMaintains an adequate level of backup instruments to diminish the down time of sets. The goal is to maintain a 100% completion rate of instruments. Identify those instruments that have a high loss rate and assist in identifying the causesWorks with Service Line Managers and CSP Management on ordering of new instruments to include new physicians onboarding, adding additional sets to inventory and all back-upsPerforms inventory of all loose instruments within the CSP department and assists in reorganizing with a goal of reducing or eliminating unused instrumentsResearch potential vendors for new and improved instrumentation and equipmentThe list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary
