Coordinator, Music Clearance

  

The Creative Music Strategy team is a full-service music-focused group that leads Music Strategy across the Paramount Global brands. Our expertise includes Music Supervision, Licensing, Music Marketing and Music Operations.  We partner with our content creators to develop the sound of our shows with artists, composers, songwriters, labels and publishers.  We also operate and manage the Paramount Music Library, Audio Releases/Soundtracks, and external licensing opportunities.


Reporting to the VP of Creative Music Strategy for the CBS Studios division, the coordinator will be responsible for all phases of music clearance on assigned shows, including: researching publishing and master recording administration/ownership, requesting and negotiating license fees (taking into consideration budget restrictions, time constraints and company policy) for music use, providing copyright reports, reviewing cue sheets for accuracy, identifying potential copyright claims, balancing Show, Studio, and Network requirements while meeting stringent deadlines, and being flexible in high pressure, time-sensitive environment. 

 

Responsibilities

•    Input clearances handled by third-party Music Supervisors into the company’s internal database for license and payment processing
•    Research publishing and master recording administration/copyright ownership of requested music works and when applicable, research and consult with direct supervisor & SVP, Music BALA to determine public domain status of older works
•    Negotiate fees and licensing terms for use of copyrighted music, taking into consideration budget restrictions, time constraints, and company policy 

•    Manage music budget, suggesting alternative music selections for shows as needed
•    Review script research reports to identify possible legal and clearance issues with respect to music 
•    Generate copyright reports, review cue sheets for accuracy, and issue requests for licenses
 


Qualifications
•    BA or BS Degree required, preferably in Business of Music or related entertainment field
•    Minimum 2 years music clearance experience, preferably at a television studio or production company, and/or at a major music label or music publisher 

•    Familiarity with copyright law (public domain, derivative works, and infringement)
•    Excellent communication skills, written and oral; ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the company, as well as with executive producers, publishers, record company executives, and attorneys
•    Strong relationships with publishers, record companies, and other industry professionals
•    Strong organization skills and attention to detail
•    Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment
•    Excellent computer skills

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

 

Hiring Salary Range: $50,000.00 - 62,000.00. 

 

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
