SUMMARY

The Volunteer Coordinator is a liaison between volunteers and the professional staff to recruit, organize, and train the Sholom volunteers.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Recruit and train the Sholom volunteers.*Screen and interview candidates. Select and hold orientation for finalists. *Implement and conduct training sessions for new volunteers. *Review available volunteer opportunities to appropriately match the volunteer with their preferences and skills. *Provide schedules for volunteers. *Conduct orientation and training for volunteers so that they understand the overall objectives of Sholom and are introduced to their particular area of service. *Provide related feedback for volunteers. *Develop and implement recognition and reward system. *Provide ongoing support and guidance for volunteers. * Act as a single point of contact for volunteer communications. *Facilitate distribution of information relevant to volunteers. *Work as a team with other staff including planning, implementation, and evaluation of volunteer services. Act as a liaison between volunteers and staff. *Serve as an internal resource, providing information regarding volunteer services. *Gather internal feedback from team members and apply it to the program and volunteers as needed. *Support various other Therapeutic Recreation responsibilities as needed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education & Work Experience Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent required.Two or more years of office administrative experience required.Strong competency in office technology preferred. (i.e. Microsoft, copier machines, fax machines)Experience in a long-term care setting and volunteer coordination role preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of gerontology and an understanding of the needs of the aging.Able to set objectives and work goals and standards give direction, delegate and motivate volunteers.Able to plan, prioritize, coordinate, and manage own work.  Able to work unsupervised, make decisions and solve routine problems independently, effectively and creatively.Work as an effective and proactive team-player; understand the importance of supporting the organization, residents, customers and other Sholom employees.Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with a variety of people and personalities inside and outside the organization.  Able to effectively handle interactions at all levels and to respond appropriately in sensitive situations.Able to display high levels of customer service, responding promptly and thoroughly to the inquiries and needs of individuals both internal and external to the organization in accordance with our PROUD standards.Communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing to all levels of people inside and outside the organization, including possessing good English speaking skills, fluency and understandability.Detail-oriented, organized and applies effective time management skills in order to meet all deadlines.  Able to successfully prioritize and manage multiple tasks and numerous projects in a fast-paced environment.Able to effectively present information in large and small group situations to patients, volunteers, staff and other customers.Understand and maintain confidential nature of organization and client information, including and in accordance to HIPAA regulations.Able to understand and follow facility and department safety and emergency proceduresAble to follow and adhere to Universal Precautions and Infection Control procedures. Familiar with computers and software, including using the Internet, Microsoft Office, Outlook and other applications.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY TO PERFORM THIS JOB

Incumbent must be able to:

Perform very light work, with occasional or negligible lifting of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.Push and move wheelchairs with residents up to 200 pounds for short and long distances.Turn, bend and reach frequently in the performance of responsibilities.Hear, speak and effectively verbally communicate in the English language, including following oral and written instructions, in order to communicate with people inside and outside the organization.Work at a desk for extended periods of time and perform work at a computer. Stand and walk to move around the office and building repeatedly throughout the day.Apply manual dexterity, visual acuity and ability, for computer keyboarding, office equipment use, review detailed reports, information, fine print and warning labels.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Incumbent must be able to use standard office equipment. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is primarily indoors.
