Coordinator I for Educational Programs in Surgical Skills Center

Position Summary:

UTHealth Houston is looking for an employee to coordinate and administer educational programs in our surgical skills center. You will be working on scheduling and coordinating standardized patients who provide educational opportunities for our medical school students. This takes a lot of organization and the ability to shuffle quickly when needed. You will manage our relationship with these standardized patients who come in part-time as needed by the studies or educational programs we are conducting. You will also help manage our center, which offers learning opportunities to students and faculty. Candidates should have a background in training or worked in an educational setting. You should be able to train and assist people with the programs. 

This role will be on-site at our 6431 Fannin Street Building or our McGovern Medical School Building. Work hours are a standardized 8 am - 5 pm, Monday through Friday.

Position Key Accountabilities:

Maintain the pool of standardized patients and ensure appropriate representation of gender and ages to be able to meet the needs of the clinical exams and the educational program Scheduling standardized patient work assignments and ensuring adequate coverage for the day-to-day operation of the program Interact extensively with the standardized patients to facilitate events/programs Build relationships with the standardized patients to develop “positive” contacts, promote and achieve the program goals Troubleshoot and reconcile payroll, i.e., accurate reporting, weekly timesheets, reporting records (sign-in sheet), and time entry into the payroll system Assist Educational Programs Coordinators in an educational program setting and preparation of data in order to ensure the achievement of the program’s goals and objectives Orient standardized patients and students to center and equipment as needed during clinical encounter-based exams/skill sessions Facilitate simulation experiences by overseeing set-up for standardized patient experiences; preparing the exam room environment, preparing the learning management system and AV equipment for simulcasting and assisting faculty with operation as necessary; returning all equipment and supplies to designated locations; and ensuring the cleanliness of center/exam room environment to pre-encounter-based exam conditions Facilitate training of standardized patients on the “timing” of encounters as well as the operation of simulation equipment Make recommendations regarding the development and implementation of new policies and procedures to improve program, planning, scheduling, and training of standardized patients

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or relevant experience in lieu of education.

Minimum Experience:

One year of experience in an educational setting.
Experience in classroom teaching or corporate training preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
