The Department of Veterinary Technology at Northwestern State University of Louisiana seeks applications from enthusiastic individuals interested in the Coordinator of Veterinary Technology position. This is a 12- month staff position beginning July 1st, 2025. The successful candidate would ideally be a Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) with the appropriate license to practice in Louisiana. However, interested parties that could support the Veterinary Technology Department and Department Head as described in the job concepts are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Qualifications
+ Shall be qualified to teach in the field of study
+ Shall be effective in teaching the assigned subject material
+ Shall meet the required standards defined by the University
+ Shall be proficient in curriculum development, instruction, evaluation, and academic counseling
+ Shall hold an Associate degree or Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in Veterinary Technology and be a licensed Registered Veterinary Technician/Technologist in Louisiana.
Job Concepts
+ Duties and responsibilities:
+ Works with the Department Head of Veterinary Technology to resolve administrative tasks including those with program accrediting agencies.
+ This includes but is not limited to periodic reports, inspections, and any other administrative task that the Department Head needs assistance.
+ The coordinator will visit the farm and observe farm animals regularly to perform the necessary checkups and documentation of animal care.
+ The coordinator will be the liaison for the Instituional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and the Veterinary Technology Department and attend these meetings.
+ The coordinator will assist the Department Head with compiling data and drafting annual departmental assessments submitted to the university
+ The coordinator will need to teach some combination of VTEC classes to reduce the class load of the Department Head.
+ The coordinator will be committed to excellence in teaching, service, and community service as described in the faculty/staff handbook.
+ The coordinator will serve as an advisor and mentor for students in the Department of Veterinary Technology.
+ The coordinator must possess excellent communication skills and will work with the School of STEM to create fun engaging hands-on activities that promote and recruit students to the Veterinary Technology Department and provide representation at the STEM showcase events.
+ The coordinator will oversee students enrolled in VTEC 2900 & 4900 internships by checking in with hospital supervisors and ensuring students’ documents and evaluations are properly maintained by the program.
+ Maintain appropriate expertise and competencies through continued professional development and pursuit of scholarly activities including continued education as required for licensure for registered veterinary technologists in Louisiana.
+ Professionally represent the University in all activities and functions as determined by the President, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean, Director, or Department Chair (e.g., commencement, faculty institute, registration, STEM events, etc.)
+ Maintain confidentiality per federal laws and program policy
+ Acknowledge and agree to comply with those mandates of the Constitution and laws of the State of Louisiana which regulate the activity and employment of state employees including but not limited to the “Code of Government Ethics”, LA R.S. 42:1101 et seq”, and “Dual Office Holding and Dual Employment LA R.S. 42:61 et seq”.
