Job Description:
Biobanking human tissues for both nPOD and CARE-T1D programs including receipt of tissues, gross and fine dissection, tissue fixation, freezing, inventory, and distributions. Vibratome cutting of live tissue slices, development and implementation of perifusion protocols to assess glucose-stimulated insulin secretion. Next-day shipment coordination with nPOD research investigators. Establishing new and revised tissue processing protocols for current laboratory practices as well as new projects. On-call rotation schedule for both nPOD and CARE-T1D case processing (nights and weekends).
Original research publications, reports, and abstract writing. Research method development including study design, data collection, immunostaining, CODEX, image analysis, statistical calculations, and background literature review. Reporting program progress and utilization at nPOD and CaRe-T1D meetings. Create figures, graphs, charts, and graphical illustrations for publications, poster presentations, and reports using Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, Adobe Illustrator, and GraphPad Prism.
Supervise and train lab personnel to ensure adherence to SOPs in day-to-day activities. Evaluating new equipment for purchase. Training lab staff on new equipment and SOPs. Routine maintenance of equipment and coordination with 3rd party vendors to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment failure.
Perform micro CT X-ray microscope operation and data analysis. Provide 3D renderings using 3D.Suite software and calcification volume for online data sharing with consortium members.
Assist in routine immunostaining, frozen tissue sectioning using cryostat, and QC Aperio online pathology system to ensure core histology screening is up to date. Assist in frozen tissue section cutting for investigator requests.
Developing new lab procedures as requested by nPOD investigators and approved by nPOD Tissue Prioritization Committee. Recommending and implementing operating policies and procedures based on international biorepository standards. SOP creation.
Assist the lab managers with other tasks as needed
Expected Salary:
Starting salary is between $63,000 - $68,000.
Minimum Requirements:
MS required or 10 years science related, core specific advanced training and work experience and/or post-graduate coursework. Requires at least 3 years in core facility specific applications and at least 2 years of that in research-based technology. Work experience in multi-user core facility preferred. Core or technology specific licensure and/or certifications where applicable. Additionally yearly certificate and compliance training if required.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience working with fresh and preserved organs and tissue. Experience in cell isolation and cell culture. Experience in standard molecular biology techniques including DNA isolation, RNA isolation, RNA quality assessment, and ELISA Ability to operate cryostat, microtome, and perfusion system. Immunohistochemistry and/or immunofluorescence experience in staining and data analysis. Experience in research development, data management, data analysis, and scientific writing. Ability to work independently, with initiative, manage time and work with minimal supervision to analyze problems and take appropriate action to complete projects. Proficiency with statistics commonly applied in bioinformatic, biostatistical, and biomedical research. Working knowledge of Type 1 diabetes etiology, beta cell function, and histopathology. High proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel, Powerpoint, Word, and Access. Ability to maintain accurate records and inventories. Ability to work well in a team setting including mentoring and supporting laboratory technicians.
