Core Supplier Technical Assistance (STA) Engineer

In this position...  

We are looking for a degreed engineer with prior manufacturing experience and a strong quality background. Key responsibilities will include performing new technology/manufacturing feasibility assessments, developing robust industrialization plans, developing optimal bills of process, breaking capacity constraints, addressing systemic quality/warranty issues and delivering on APQP/PSW. Building strong relationships with supplier partners will be critical for success and significant collaboration will be required with senior leaders in the Ford product development, research, purchasing, and site STA teams. This will require excellent verbal and written communication skills and a passion for teamwork and collaboration. Ideal candidates for this position will have prior experience managing automotive suppliers for an OEM or experience supporting a supplier manufacturing site as a supplier engineer. Candidates are needed who have specific experience in automotive manufacturing in body exterior and underbody with ability to travel approximately 25%.

You'll have... 

Basic Qualifications: 

BS in engineering 2-3 Years - Knowledge of or prior experience with supplier manufacturing 2-3 Years - Proficiency with at least one of the automotive disciplines (body exterior, body interior, chassis, electrical, or powertrain).  Fluent in English Knowledge of problem solving and quality skills Strong communication and relationship building skills Ability to travel up to 25%

Preferred Qualifications:

MS in engineering 5-10 years of manufacturing experience in or with the automotive supply base  Prior experience leading manufacturing feasibility assessments Prior experience leading industrialization projects Prior experience in the Lean manufacturing disciplines (e.g. Bill of Process, capacity planning, design to target, etc.) Prior experience in welding, machining, assembly and automation processes   Demonstrated passion for developing new skills and tackling technical challenges

What you'll do...

Act as a supplier technical assistance core engineer Lead development, documentation, and implementation of critical core STA deliverables: New technology/manufacturing feasibility assessments Industrialization plans Optimal bills of process Collaborate with research and core PD to understand new technologies and how they might impact the supply base. Collaborate with PD, purchasing, and site STA to drive optimal sourcing decisions. Collaborate with PD and purchasing to optimize the modular catalog and deliver the best cost at job #1. Lead/participate in efforts to break capacity constraints, resolve systemic technical issues, and address critical issues impacting launch or production. Collaborate with technical specialists and cross functional partners to develop best practices and lessons learned (health charts) for critical commodities. Travel throughout the region and globally as necessary
