Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated privacy professional to join us in the role of Privacy Specialist. This role is a member of the Global Privacy Office advising the organization on privacy matters, assisting with legal review of privacy agreements and responding to subject access requests (SARs). The ideal candidate will have proven experience working with and applying global privacy laws, regulations, and standards, and will be able to navigate sophisticated issues and provide practical advice to a variety of business partners.

The primary responsibility of the Privacy Specialist role is to help ensure the organization follows privacy and data protection laws around the world. They must have the capacity to take ownership of multiple projects and work independently, but to also be confident enough to raise concerns where appropriate, as well as positively engaging in team initiatives. As such, this individual will:

Provide legal support for the reviewing, drafting and negotiating of data protection terms in a wide array of global agreements, including client and vendor agreements, clinical trial agreements, data protection agreements, including standard contractual clauses.Provide legal support for review and update of Thermo Fisher’s data protection agreement templates and playbooks.Provide basic guidance to the business on global data protection laws, regulations, and standards to help ensure compliance across the organization. Manage, respond and support the full life cycle of subject access requests (SARs)Handle, monitor, track and maintain business requests within the organization’s privacy management tool powered by TrustArc.Work positively with other members of the Global Privacy Office in team based work and projects.Educate and train employees on data protection and privacy policies and procedures.Communicate directly with clients and vendors during negotiations of data protection agreements.Continue learning about changes to the global privacy landscape and advise on their impact on the business.

Keys to Success:

Education and KnowledgeJuris doctorate degree or equivalent.Current license to practice law in at least one state or jurisdiction.Certifications such as IAPP (CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPM) desirable.Proficient in business English, other languages a distinct advantage.3-5 years professional experience.ExperienceExcellent working knowledge of applying global privacy laws, regulations, standards in the context of a large multinational company.Proven track record of demonstrating the ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously.Experience with negotiation of data protection agreements and agreements with data protection terms.Experience with responding to the subject access requests (SARs). Willingness to quickly adapt to using a Privacy Management tool to conduct daily activities.Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate sophisticated legal issues and trainings to business colleagues.Strong interpersonal relationship skills and the ability to create and maintain positive working relationships within a large and complex environment.Ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously.Attention to detail, organized and ability to work in a focused manner in a fast-paced environment
