Position Overview:

Care.com seeks a highly motivated Corporate Counsel to help advise on internet and e-commerce regulatory compliance issues, develop ongoing compliance systems and practices, and assist with managing and overseeing the Company’s litigation and investigations portfolio. The Corporate Counsel will be an integral member of the Care.com legal team and an essential legal and business partner to internal clients. We are a team of legal experts with excellent judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills who understand legal and business dynamics and successfully collaborate with our clients to provide high-quality legal services and practical and balanced advice. 

Note: This position is based in Dallas, TX, and will be hybrid in the office 3 days per week (Monday/Wednesday/Thursday).               

What You’ll Do:

Work as an effective and collaborative business partner with internal business teams including account, sales, operations, procurement, information security, risk, privacy and compliance, and other stakeholders. Leverage your tech savvy to develop a deep understanding of our various brands’ technology and tech stacks Provide practical and innovative counsel to support high-impact and timely product launches, including working closely with product managers to develop processes/tools that will make the legal and compliance review of products more efficient Work closely and collaboratively with brand teams to identify and achieve desired business outcomes while minimizing legal risk. Facilitate the administration of corporate policies and procedures, such as vendor security, privacy compliance, and contract approval. Collaborate with Care.com’s privacy, data governance, and security teams to ensure our internal and external efforts are aligned with corporate governance and compliance goals. Develop a working knowledge of all Care.com business lines and the legal and safety issues associated with them, including technology service offerings. Identify the unique, and ever-changing regulatory issues related to the Care.com service offerings and develop strategies for compliance. Advise and counsel relevant teams on legal and safety issues arising from Care.com’s products and services. Draft, negotiate, and advise internal business teams on a variety of contractual documents including customer-facing agreements, partner and vendor agreements, and associated documents related to privacy and information security. Develop familiarity with standard and fallback positions and the ability to pose creative solutions to help meet business needs Develop a legal strategy for negotiations, clearly and concisely explain the terms of contracts to internal clients, present options for negotiations, and negotiate directly with customers, partners, and vendors. Support ongoing litigation and investigation matters as needed, including overseeing outside counsel. Effectively manage workflow to meet multiple deadlines, as well as the expectations of internal and external clients. Assist with the creation of new contract templates to support new service offerings and develop streamlined approaches to legal workflows to increase the speed and efficiency of service delivery. Lead and assist with various legal team initiatives/projects as needed

Who You Are:

JD Degree  5-10 years of law firm and/or in-house experience (preferably both) advising with internet or technology companies. Strong knowledge of laws applicable to internet platforms and e-commerce companies, including advertising and promotion laws, consumer protection laws, and domestic and international privacy laws. Litigation experience, including managing electronic discovery and conducting litigation-related investigations and document collections. Knowledge of contract law and strategic approaches to contracting for customer, vendor, and partner agreements. Comprehensive negotiation and drafting skills with an understanding of negotiation strategies and implications of contract language nuances. Excellent communication and writing skills. Experience working on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, delivering practical advice under pressure, and operating within ambiguity. Ability to assess issues from both legal and business perspectives to clearly define risks, provide solutions, and succinctly articulate positions. Team player who works well with others to meet goals and address business needs, but who also can work autonomously.

Salary Range: $180,000-$200,000 annually + 15% bonus 

The base salary range above represents the anticipated low and high end of the national salary range for this position. Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to work location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Care.com’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and short- and long-term incentives.
