Corporate Counsel II - Commercial Contracts, Marketing, IP
This position is a hybrid role requiring employees to work from our headquarters location in Seattle, WA every Tuesday and Wednesday, and remote all other days.

This position is also eligible for hybrid out of our Atlanta, GA office.

In this role, you’ll be a part of our commercial team supporting Redfin’s companies, including Redfin, Rent., Title Forward, and Bay Equity with contract review and negotiation; creative marketing and brand related legal advice;  and  Redfin’s IP portfolio. The ideal candidate will be excellent at building relationships, have impeccable organization skills, and a history of managing regulator concerns that vary across professional associations, states, and/or federal agencies. 
 

The Role 

Draft, review, and negotiate a range of commercial agreements.

Provide day-to-day support to our brand, marketing, communications, and design teams on collateral including social media posts, press releases, web content, and television and radio ads

Oversee Redfin’s trademark and patent portfolios, and manage the relationship with outside counsel subject matter experts

Advise on federal advertising and consumer protection laws, such as CAN-SPAM and TCPA

Advise on fair housing issues as they arise within marketing and advertising matters

Be or become familiar with relevant real estate advertising requirements in state and provincial laws and regulations, plus multiple listing services and National Association of Realtors® rules

Respond to ethics, regulatory, and Better Business Bureau® complaints related to Redfin’s advertisements 

Train Redfin agents on relevant advertising requirements; work with the design team to create compliant and compelling templates for agent use

Maintain and develop Redfin’s internal playbooks, surveys, and resources to scale and streamline advertising, marketing and intellectual property advice

Provide general oversight and guidance on the regulatory compliance of our marketing, products and services under RESPA

Possible expansion to provide general support on other matters, such as product counseling, and privacy
 

Who you are 

5-7 years of experience providing legal support in a fast-paced environment, and at least 3 years of in-house legal team experience, ideally at a tech company

A JD or LL.M, and a license to practice law in at least one state

Substantive knowledge of laws related to consumer protection, advertising, fair housing, and marketing

Prior experience drafting and negotiating a range of commercial agreements, including technology vendor agreements.

Substantive knowledge of data privacy and security as related to commercial technology agreements.

Prior trademark and patent experience

Clear and crisp communication skills, both written and oral, with an ability to synthesize complex legal advice into actionable, practical business guidance

Outstanding organizational skills, reading comprehension and follow-through

Excellent time management skills with a track record of triaging tasks based on business priorities and impact

A creative team player who enjoys collaborating with legal and business stakeholders to problem solve the tough issues

Familiarity with real estate brokerage law a bonus, but not required

The compensation information is provided in compliance with job posting disclosure requirements in Hawaii, Colorado, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Washington, California and Washington, DC.

Base Pay Range: $131,500.00 - 196,700.00. Actual base pay will depend on varying circumstances, including the position, location, individual qualifications, market finances, and other operational business needs. Depending on the position, compensation may also include commissions, bonuses, and equity. Potential for quarterly bonuses based on company performance. Potential for merit increases and stock grants based on performance.
