Corps Youth Assistant

LOCATION: Las Vegas Citadel Corps

STATUS: FT Non-Exempt

MISSION STATEMENT:

 QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or equivalent required. Two years experience working with youth, ages 5-18 in a religious setting. A demonstrated ability to relate and to work with youth of diverse backgrounds between 5 and 18 years of age as well as their parents and volunteers. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to carry out multiple tasks efficiently and accurately. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills. Be self-motivated and self-directed with the ability and desire to take projects from beginning through completion. Current First Aid & CPR certification. If not current, then certification must be obtained within two months of hire. Valid Nevada driver’s license with clean motor vehicle record. Must pass a background check and certify in The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program annually.

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead and organize effective youth programs implementing fellowship, worship, biblical teachings, discipleship, evangelism, and other more subtle ministry opportunities within The Salvation Army Protecting the Mission standards. Develop a calendar for the year that identifies events and activities that will be attended or hosted, to develop and strengthen relationships with youth and their families. Provide and recruit leadership to mid-week youth programs including Band, Worship Team, SAY Club, and Troops, teen fellowship & spiritual development activities. Conduct an effective Junior Soldier Development Program/ Corps Cadet program. Schedule & conduct Junior Soldier preparation classes (minimum 2 per year). Plan & implement special events every quarter to draw youth into the Corps fellowship. Submit reports regarding the planning, implementation, and outcome to your supervisor. Responsible for logging and recording all Youth Program statistics and accurate reporting completed and submitted promptly via the National Statistical System as used by The Salvation Army and other agency/grant-required reports. Assist in forming and maintaining an annual youth budget. Summer responsibilities: Assist in the planning and implementation of Summer SAY Club and Vacation Bible School. Reserve buses and drive youth to camp. Travel and overnight may be necessary. Christmas Responsibilities: Work with C.O., Corps Adults, and Youth to put together a Christmas program and assist with the “Santa Clothes” program and Christmas Kettle Kick-Off and Christmas Connection toy “store”. Assist C.O. with planning and coordination of Corps special events. Become a Community Care Ministries member and work with the C.O. and other members on monthly CCM visitation opportunities. Develop and lead a Junior CCM Team. Attend and participate in the Corps Sunday Services. Plan and coordinate all aspects of the “S.A.Y. Club” after-school program. Provide quarterly planning schedules & menus for all youth programs. Receive and safeguard offerings, activity fees, and donations, and process them according to established procedures. Maintain and safeguard the handling of petty cash as assigned. Provide transportation of Corps activities/meetings as assigned. Secure and maintain appropriate supplies and resources for all aspects of the Youth Ministry. Inventory and maintain all equipment in the youth storage room in good order. Will be required to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings. Perform other duties as assigned.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to operate a telephone, a desktop or laptop computer, as well as the ability to access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.
