Carollo Engineers is an internationally recognized environmental engineering firm that specializes in the planning, design, and construction of water and wastewater facilities. We are seeking a Corrosion Professional to help support Carollo in corrosion control mitigation efforts. This is a remote role, but qualified candidate must be located near a Carollo office.

Responsibilities Assists with Corrosion Engineering projects including any of the three primary corrosion disciplines: cathodic protection (CP), internal corrosion (water treatment), and/or protective coatings and liningsAssists with contract related activities including design, field inspection, contract administration, scheduling, and forecastingReviews detailed designs for corrosion prevention systems, cost estimates and bid documentsResponsible for engineering support in the planning, construction, operation, maintenance, and analysis of corrosion controlDevelops solutions to technical problems involving problem solving techniques that may not have been previously encounteredPrepares engineering plans, designs, specifications, standards, evaluations and studies utilizing specialized analytical skillsDemonstrates sound knowledge of Association of Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) best industry practicesConducts and assists in field tests/inspections, measurements, filing of reports, and record keepingWrites, modifies, and generates project specific specificationsAssists in materials selection, including but not limited to: stainless steels, composites, etc.Provides guidance in corrosivity analysis and provides recommendations for appropriate corrosion mitigation strategiesImplements and manages communication and program meetingsTravel may be required (average of 25%)
Additional Responsibilities for Candidates applying under Cathodic Protection Discipline:
Performs small-scale CP design in both impressed current and galvanic systems, covering water/wastewater assetsPeer review of all phases of CP designPerforms CP surveys including pipe-to-soil, close interval survey, current requirement testing, current mapping, electrical continuity testing, and other miscellaneous CP surveyingUtilizes GIS field data collection tools to capture CP dataResearches records and compiles information to ensure accuracy of GIS systems for Corrosion field assets
Additional Responsibilities for Candidates applying under Coatings Discipline:
Writes coating specifications and provides guidance for all phases of projectProvides guidance for coatings in all environmental conditionsUtilizes evaluation and testing techniques for coating systems and metals – methods including non-destructive tests (e.g., holiday coating tests, electromagnetic and ultrasonic pipeline condition tests, XRF composition analyzers for alloys) and destructive testsInspects protective coatings and lining installation including surface preparation, product application, and quality control testingAble to perform and oversee tests for surface profile, wet and dry film thickness, adhesion, holiday, hardness, and other general coatings testing
Additional Responsibilities for Candidates applying under Internal Corrosion Discipline:
Assists with mitigation of corrosion that occurs inside pipelines and other equipment that transports or stores water/wastewaterAssists in monitoring the interior of pipelines using techniques like coupon monitoring, ultrasonic testing, or inline inspection tools to assess corrosion rates and locationsAssists with the use of corrosion inhibitors, biocides, and other chemicals to minimize corrosionInvestigates corrosion-related failures or leaks to understand the root cause and determine if issues stem from material defects, environmental conditions, or chemical interactionsAnalyze samples and examine the corrosion mechanisms (e.g., pitting, microbial-induced corrosion, etc.) at play.Works closely with coatings and materials engineers to select pipe materials, linings, and coatings that resist corrosion under expected service conditionsUses predictive modeling to anticipate future corrosion issues and recommend proactive measuresPerforms water quality based research or field trial efforts to mitigate internal corrosionUses various indices to analyze and evaluate various corrosion risk: Larsons, Wallastonite, Langelier Saturation, and others Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering or related field4-8 years of directly related professional experienceCorrosion control experience (either in Coatings, Cathodic Protection, or Internal Corrosion)NACE or SSPC Certification, or equivalent Demonstrated experience in small, medium, and large-sized water and/or wastewater infrastructure projectsApplication of engineering principles including critical thinking, analysis, and innovative techniquesAbility to communicate effectively with clients and project teamAbility to deliver services within budget and schedule constraintsKnowledge of industry standards pertaining to corrosion controlDemonstrate experienced for discipline of specialty: Cathodic protection, coatings, internal corrosion Preferred Qualifications Corrosion certifications (NACE CP1/2, or NACE CIP 1/2, or Internal Corrosion Technician/Technologist); equivalent certifications consideredWater/Wastewater industry experience Pay Range$95,000 to $135,000 annually. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
