Cortez - Site-Based Solar Engagement Specialist

Position Description:

Nevada Gold Mines is building new Site Based Solar projects at Cortez and Turquoise Ridge, a substantial amount of funds is being granted by the DOE though their Clean Energy Demonstration Grant, as part of this partnership, NGM is required to meet the public engagement requirements stablished by the DOE throughout the execution of the project.

Nevada Gold Mines is recruiting for a Site-Based Solar Engagement Specialist to join our team.  The successful candidate will establish the public engagement structure in alignment with the DOE’s requirements, engage with local historically underrepresented groups, disadvantaged communities, and frontline communities in alignment with the DOE’s guidelines. In addition to making sure the DOE’s public engagement requirements are met the public engagement specialist shall assist the project team with some of the day-to-day clerical office work.

Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities and tasks:

Develop a plan for engagement that includes a schedule and strategies for including local historically underrepresented groups, disadvantaged communities, and frontline communities. Submit written discussion of public engagement planned for the Cortez and TR Solar projects. Plan, manage, report, and implement all necessary activities to support a robust community benefits program. Support NGM project team and developing a community and labor engagement strategy in line with the DOE’s Community and labor engagement requirements which include the development of a social baseline study, stakeholder mapping and analysis, tailoring of engagement strategies and methods, etc. Support NGM project team and developing a tribal engagement strategy in line with the DOE’s tribal engagement requirements which include identification of affected tribes and engagement strategy, engagement activities, wider benefits, etc. Support NGM project team and developing community advisory mechanisms in line with the DOE’s requirements which include implementation and deployment of regional community development committees, etc. Support NGM project team in assessing and ensuring equitable impacts in line with the DOE’s requirements which include revision of total magnitude of impacts and percent flowing to disadvantaged communities, conduct stakeholder interviews to evaluate potential positive and negative community impacts, build out an implementation strategy to ensure equitable project impacts. Support NGM project team in creating partnerships in line with the DOE’s requirements which include developing and codifying community partnerships in memoranda of understanding (MOUs), contracts or other engagements, conduct diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) analyses and develop or achieve DEIA goals and metrics, etc. Support NGM project team in creating Workforce Development, Job Quality, and Continuity in line with DOE’s requirements which include Creating a staffing and workforce development plan, conduct a workforce impact analysis, etc. Support NGM project team in creating equitable pathways to employment in line with DOE’s requirements which include issuing career pathway recommendations, develop promotion and recruitment materials, etc. Support NGM project team in creating workforce and community agreements in line with DOE’s requirements which include community workforce agreements, collective bargaining agreements, project stabilization agreements, etc. Support NGM project team in public data reporting in line with DOE’s requirements which include developing a data reporting platform, data integration and management, comprehensive reporting, etc. Assist the NGM project team with office clerical work on a need-to basis, such as internal reporting, procurement, invoicing, warehouse reservations, document control, cost control office management, etc.  Support the NGM project team on meeting other DOE and OCED requirements outside of engagement on a need-to basis.  Other duties as assigned.

   

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences Environmental Management, Business Administration, or related field required Minimum of 5 years of experience in CSR, community relations, or related field, preferably within the mining industry or extractive sector preferred  Strong understanding of CSR principles, stakeholder engagement methodologies, and community development practices required  Excellent project management skills, with the ability to plan, execute, and evaluate CSR initiatives effectively required Experience in managing land access and dealing with land tenure issues preferred Knowledge of Nevada’s regulatory environment and community dynamics preferred Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across departments and with diverse stakeholders. Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills required
