Job description
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join our finance team. The Cost Accountant will play a key role in managing and analysing the company's costs to support effective decision-making and financial planning. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytic abilities, in-depth knowledge of cost accounting principles, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams within the company. This role will also involve responsibilities related to Gross Profit analysis and month-end activities.
Role & Responsibilities
* Cost Analysis
* Analyse and monitor product costs, ensuring accuracy and alignment with company policies.
* Conduct regular cost reviews to identify areas for improvement and cost-saving opportunities.
* Collaborate with production and procurement teams to gather relevant cost data.
* Review work orders and entry of daily production and consumption records.
* Budgeting and Forecasting
* Assist in the development of budgets and forecasts by providing accurate cost information.
* Work closely with other departments to understand cost drivers and contribute to the budgeting process.
* Monitor actual performance against budgeted costs and provide variance analysis.
* Financial Reporting
* Prepare and analyse cost-related financial reports for management and other stakeholders.
* Performs and coordinates the month-end process for the plants, which includes making inventory-related accruals, processing journal entries on behalf of the plants.
* Provide insights and recommendations based on cost analysis to support strategic decision-making.
* Inventory Valuation
* Oversee the valuation of inventory, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
* Collaborate with the inventory management team to reconcile physical inventory counts with financial records.
* Implement and maintain inventory costing methods.
* Cost Control
* Implement and maintain cost control procedures to optimise operational efficiency.
* Identify and recommend cost reduction initiatives without compromising product quality.
* Monitor and report on key performance indicators related to cost control.
* Process Improvement
* Continuously evaluate and improve cost accounting processes and systems.
* Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to streamline processes and enhance efficiency.
* Implement best practices in cost accounting to drive continuous improvement.
Skills & Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field along with three+ years of relevant experience in Accounting or Manufacturing
* Proven experience as a Cost Accountant or in a similar role.
* Solid understanding of cost accounting principles, standards, and methodologies.
* Proficiency in various ERP systems, AS400 and Harris Data is strongly preferred.
* Advanced Computer skills, including advanced spreadsheet functions (e.g. Pivot Tables, Look ups, Formulas)
* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Professional certification such as Certified Cost Accountant (CCA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA).
* Experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
* Familiarity with relevant industry regulations and compliance standards
