Summary

The Cost Accountant is responsible for maintaining the inventory financial records of Compass Minerals. This job includes oversight of the financial operations at the manufacturing site, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulations, and effective cost management. Furthermore, strong written and verbal communication skills are vital for successfully undertaking the role.

Essential Job Functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Corporate Responsibilities:

Record journal entries for monthly closing of company ledgers.Maintain the inventory standard cost tables within the J.D. Edwards Enterprise-One system. Prepare internal financial reports and associated analysis of reports.Prepare documents and data to support reporting by the SEC, investor relations, tax, and treasury departments.Assist in audits, special projects, and analysis as required.

Site Responsibilities:

Record and maintain accurate financial transactions, including payroll, accounts payable, and general ledger entries.Assist plant managers with manufacturing and inventory accounting entries.Analyze and interpret financial data to identify trends and variances.Utilize historical data and plant manager's input to accurately forecast monthly production and analyze variances for proactive decision-making.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and execute annual budget plans, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and financial targets.Lead the annual budgeting process at designated site and assist in developing long-term financial forecasts.Monitor budget variances and communicate findings to management, providing actionable insights.Perform other related duties as required.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance with a cost accounting background.Minimum of 3 years of experience working with financial statements and standard cost inventory systems required.Experience in the manufacturing industry and J.D. Edwards Enterprise preferred.
