As a member of the Financial Planning and Analysis team, the Cost Accounting Analyst provides a broad understanding of the Cost Accounting process for the five hospitals of Independence Health System to provide data to the Executive Team for decision-making process. The incumbent acts as an advisor to stakeholders such as finance and operational leadership with profitability analytics. The Cost Accounting Analyst will have a thorough understanding of the cost of care and strive to improve the cost accounting process and provide accurate data to facilitate meaningful improvement.
Schedule
This position is Monday through Friday, daylight hours, working hybrid (a mix of working from home and on-site, in either Greensburg or Butler, depending on the applicant's location).
Essential Job Functions
Maintains the Cost Accounting system and performs costing for all hospitals in the system on a regular basis. Responsible for assigning and assessing cost accounting principles to individual patient encounters to estimate the cost of providing services using efficient methodologies and tools. Demonstrate functional understanding of revenue cycle to accurately assess and estimate payments. Provide reporting to leadership on profitability of services lines, programs, capital investments, and other items using cost accounting and decision support techniques. Develop financial projections for new or expanded service lines or programs. Educate all levels of leaders on the data reported to them. Develop innovative ways to demonstrate costs, margins, and profitability. Actively participate in meetings, bringing ideas and volunteering to take on tasks Behave as an agent for transformation, seeking continuous improvement techniques to improve organizational reporting. Training/Education Educate operational leadership on financial concepts Conduct one-on-one trainings regarding concepts, tools, and reports Data Stewardship Scrutinize source of data and data received. Remain cognizant of the objective of gathering data as efficiently and effectively as possible. Advocate for data-driven decisions. Customer Service Maintain a service-oriented attitude Innovate reporting to efficiently meet customer need. Clearly communicate timeline and expectations to consumers. Required Qualifications/Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance. Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice. Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience. Strong Excel skills, including advance functions (pivot tables, lookups, if statements).Preferred Qualifications/Experience
Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration preferred. One to three years’ experience in Accounting or Finance. CPA preferred. Experience in a Healthcare setting.License, Certification & Clearances
