Cost Analyst
Job Title: Cost AccountantJob Description We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Cost Accountant to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for calculating and assessing the costs of products and services, collaborating with manufacturing teams, and preparing financial reports. You will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate cost accounting and improving production efficiency. Responsibilities + Calculate and assess the costs of individual products and external services by analyzing direct labor, materials, and overhead components. + Collaborate with manufacturing teams to establish and monitor standard cost benchmarks for production processes, and compare them with actual costs to identify areas for improvement. + Review cost discrepancies on a monthly basis, analyze variances between standard and actual costs, and provide explanations and recommendations for corrective actions. + Prepare and present monthly financial reports that compare department expenses with budgeted figures, and meet with departmental leadership to discuss outcomes. + Analyze complex bills of materials and routings, up to seven levels deep, to determine standard costs and track cost changes. + Use data analysis techniques to uncover opportunities for improving production efficiency, reducing costs, and eliminating inefficiencies. + Oversee physical inventory management and ensure the cycle count program is properly executed. + Reconcile finished goods inventory monthly to ensure accurate records. + Ensure timely and accurate submission of inventory data, gross margin reports, and related schedules to management. + Maintain and enforce internal controls in cost accounting to ensure accuracy, compliance, and alignment with company policies. + Support various special projects as needed. + Assist with internal reporting requirements, including audit schedules, tax documentation, and other departmental needs. Essential Skills + Proficiency in cost accounting and cost analysis. + Experience in accounting within the manufacturing industry. + Strong understanding of bills of materials (BOMs) and routings. + Ability to perform month-end variance analysis. + Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and manipulating large data sets. + Ability to handle physical inventory management. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with ERP systems (open to various systems except QuickBooks). + Experience using a Business Intelligence (BI) tool is preferred but not required. + Data analysis and management skills. + Experience in a non-repetitive manufacturing environment is preferred. + Open to candidates with 3+ years of relevant experience. Work Environment This is a fully onsite position where you will need to walk the production floors to complete physical inventory. You will be working in a corporate office located next to the production area, which has about 15 employees. The work environment is known for its stability, great culture, and flexibility, with most employees having been with the company for over 5 years.
