Cost & Inventory Manager
Job Title: Cost & Inventory ManagerJob Description We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Cost & Inventory Manager to analyze monthly financial results, explain material variances, and propose necessary adjustments. The ideal candidate will develop accurate and timely financial trend analyses to facilitate management decisions and monitor inventory control activities. This role requires participation in the month-end process, maintaining standard cost updates, and assisting in creating models to capture actual manufacturing costs. Responsibilities + Analyze monthly financial results and explain material variances of actuals versus budget, prior month, or prior year results. + Propose adjustments as needed based on financial analysis. + Develop accurate and timely financial trend analyses showing the company’s KPIs. + Monitor inventory control activities including reconciling physical vs perpetual records, cycle counts, material transfers, and determining excess, obsolete, and scrap materials. + Validate inventory balances for raw materials, work in process (WIP), and finished goods as well as the cost of goods sold. + Participate in the month-end process and post all adjustments related to inventory. + Prepare reconciliation workpapers for each inventory balance sheet account. + Maintain standard cost (materials & labor) updates as needed. + Assist in creating a model to capture actual manufacturing costs (materials, labor & overhead) to determine product pricing. + Develop automated reporting and forecasting tools for efficient use of data. + Take an active role during the budget process in preparing data for department heads to create their annual budgets. + Serve as a liaison to other departments to ensure timely completion of the budget and communicate any questions or feedback from higher management. + Provide auditors (internal/external) with schedules and explanations for any inquiries related to inventory or manufacturing costs. + Work closely with the finance accounting team to provide feedback on the proper treatment/posting of overhead expenses. + Coordinate with the manufacturing and materials management team to establish proper procedures for inventory movements and assist them in being audit-ready. + Supervision of accounting staff. Essential Skills + Strong inventory control, reconciliation, and cost accounting skills. + Proficiency in ERP systems and financial systems. + Understanding of accounting theories and/or US GAAP/IFRS. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills. + Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and computer skills. + Detail-oriented, highly organized, and a self-starter who sets and achieves aggressive goals. + Ability to meet deadlines with a sense of urgency. + Adapts to new situations and works well in a fast-paced environment. + Demonstrates analytical thinking and problem-solving ability. Additional Skills & Qualifications + BS Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics. + Minimum of 5 years of cost accounting/financial analysis experience. + Pharmaceutical Manufacturing experience preferred. + Experience with the pharmaceutical industry or other life science businesses preferred. Work Environment This role offers a hybrid work environment, with 2-3 days in the office. The accounting team consists of about 5 people. There are no direct reports in this position. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.57 - $60.09/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
