The Position The costumer will be responsible for designing and building costumes for 3-4 productions a year and for teaching and collaborating with undergraduate students Key Responsibilities: * Designing and building costumes for 3-4 productions a year including procurement of materials, expertise in construction of costumes * Teaching, supervising, and training undergraduate students in realizing production costumes both in classes and workshop settings. * Maintaining the costume shop and adjacent spaces (storage and dressing rooms), including managing costume storage and repair, stocking supplies, equipment maintenance and repair (industrial sewing machines, irons, laundry, etc.). * Teaching 2-3 theatre classes a year (one to two each semester) typically costume construction, costume design, or make-up for the stage, and, depending on the production schedule, perhaps Theatre 101. * Responsible for leading recruiting and marketing for the theatre program including managing social media content. Duties may include: * Participation in Academic Exploration Days and Accepted Student open houses * Liaison to Admissions (tours, scholarships, etc.) * Attend VTF and VTA (perhaps with students) * Presence in regional high school theater programs * Network locally and regionally with professional theaters * Manage social media accounts and generate program content * coordinate posters and print advertising, RC online advertising * Proficiency in Photoshop or other editing software is preferred, * Departmental/program service in support of program goals * Contribute to annual assessment * Help with curriculum revision, as needed * Assist in season selection in coordination with directors and Olin Hall Administration * Attend regular production meetings for each s how as needed; oversee and maintain show budget as appropriate * Coordination of visiting artists, special events * Variable hours, including evenings and weekends * Will report to the Assistant Dean, School of Communication/Culture/Arts. Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities: * MFA (or equivalent professional experience) required. * Education and/or experience related to one or more of the following areas would be highly desired: arts organizations, media studies, or education. * Experience beyond graduate assistantships is strongly desired.
