Job DescriptionAbout the Global Privacy Office
The Counsel role sits within a supportive, hard-working and fun Privacy, Data, AI and Cyber Legal Team which forms part of Visa’s Global Privacy Office (GPO). As a member of the GPO, you will not only play a critical helping drive our global privacy program forward, but you will get exposure to, and have an opportunity to become an expert on, a diverse range of cutting-edge topics. The GPO supports a wide array of global, regional, and local initiatives on data privacy, data governance, cybersecurity, records and information management, AI and machine learning, open banking and cross border data movement.
Position Summary
In this role, you will be providing strategic legal advice, overseeing the effective operation of our Global Privacy Program and ensuring compliance with privacy, data, and AI laws and regulations. You will be responsible for leading the delivery of efficient, effective and high-quality legal support to the business on privacy, data, AI and cyber matters. You will also have opportunities to be involved in all aspects of the company's global privacy program and strategy.
Depending on the candidate's skills and interests and business needs, s/he will:
Provide legal privacy support for a broad range of Visa product solutions and services.Be responsible for providing high quality data privacy and commercial compliance advice and support to colleagues at all levels within the business regarding data privacy legislation.Support business unit attorneys with respect to privacy issues in contract negotiations and client relationships.Stay updated on emerging privacy laws and trends to ensure ongoing compliance.Build relationships with key business partners, collaborating closely to provide effective privacy-related legal assistance, enabling them to achieve their business objectives.Play an active part in contributing to the development of the Global Privacy Program.Work closely with public policy, regulatory and communications teams to develop consistent and effective materials to support engagement on privacy and data related matters.Provide legal guidance on privacy impacts assessments and new, innovative, complex data and AI use cases.This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
•8 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or at least
5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or
2 years of work experience with a PhD
•Juris Doctor degree or foreign equivalent with strong academic credentials
•Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
Preferred Qualifications:
•9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or 7 or
more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters,
MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD
•3-7 years of experience in top law firm and/or in house environments
•Experience providing practical advice to clients on data use and privacy issues
•Excellent written, oral and presentation skills
•Excellent interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to interact well and build
excellent working relationships with all levels of management
•Positive attitude, high level of integrity and intellectual curiosity with a passion
for novel and complex privacy, data, cyber and AI issues
•A high level of self-motivation, initiative, and ability to operate effectively as a
team player across different business units.
The ideal candidate would also have:
•Experience in the payments industry
•In-house experience (secondment or permanent role)
•One or more CIPP certification(s).
Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.
Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.
Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 182,300.00 to 237,000.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
