Posting Details Position Information UW - System Position Title Counseling Services Director Business Title Major Department Code Counseling/Health Services (J037660) Appointment Type Limited FLSA Status Exempt FTE (Percentage of Appointment) 100 Typical Working Schedule 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday with some after-hours responsibilities as needed Hybrid or On Campus On Campus Position Summary Oversees and manages personnel, operations, policy, logistics, and strategic planning. Serves as the primary liaison from Student Counseling Services ( SCS ) to the university and surrounding community. Provides direct counseling and education services to students and consultation to students, faculty, and staff. Ensures staff and programs work collaboratively and effectively with other areas of the university. Responsibilities + Develops and directs the strategic planning and operations for university counseling services + Welcomes and values people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences; and supports and promotes an environment that celebrates diversity in all its forms + Provides supervision, clinical consultation, and strategic leadership for counselors and counseling services + Develops, evaluates, and ensures compliance with counseling services policies and standards of practice + Manages counseling personnel and multiple budgets while advocating for funding and seeking grants to meet and support student mental health needs. + Serves as a liaison to campus and community stakeholders + Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of five direct reports. + Supervise the creation, management, and evaluation of mental health services, policies, and programming based on systematic needs assessments. Implement improvements to meet student needs. + Ensure a safe and healthy campus by maintaining policies related to crisis management (e.g., Postvention, Student of Concern Team). + Create, revise, and monitor counseling policies, working with campus leadership and the UW System to update the community on any changes. + Oversee marketing and promotion of all SCS services. + Lead or serve on task forces, coalitions, committees, and consortiums to address campus health and mental health needs, sharing information with SCS staff and the campus. + Stay current on health and mental health issues, providing expertise and consulting for campus, community, and UW System. + Build and maintain cooperative relationships with campus and community stakeholders. + Establish infrastructure in SCS to serve as a “point of distribution” in case of emergency or disaster. + Manage service contracts, ensuring appropriate services, cost-effectiveness, utilization tracking, and billing oversight.
