We are currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated Counselor Assistant to join our team. Position Overview:
As a Counselor Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing essential services to our clients living in community residences. Your responsibilities will include screening, referral, education, orientation, daily living skills training, case management, co-facilitation of group sessions, support, and basic crisis response.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Services That Address Client Goals:
o Collaborate with clients to pursue Service Plan goals through coaching and teaching.
o Coordinate client services by working closely with other East House staff and external providers.
o Provide education and support to the families and friends of clients.
o Participate in the development and maintenance of the therapeutic community.
o Maintain familiarity with all clients in the unit through various means such as Case Reviews and communication logs.
o Address the needs of clients in the unit during on-duty shifts.
+ Health and Safety:
o Teach, support, and assist in the daily upkeep of the environment, including light housekeeping, cooking, and supply management.
o Assist clients in their responsibilities for cleaning, meal preparation, and maintaining safe and sanitary conditions.
o Ensure clients attend appointments (e.g., medical, therapy), assist with treatment recommendations, and inform appropriate providers of outcomes.
+ Safely Managed Medications (as designated):
o Provide supervision to clients in managing their medications.
o Adhere to East House medication policies and procedures.
+ Documentation Standards:
o Maintain documentation to the standards defined by regulators, funders, and East House policies and procedures.
Results/Measures:
· Clients making reasonable progress toward goals.
· Positive feedback from colleagues and clients expressing satisfaction.
· Consistent and appropriate response to client needs during on-duty shifts.
· Maintenance of food and meals during on-duty shifts.
· Consistent coaching and supervision for clients in their responsibilities.
· Ensuring the living environment is maintained as a sober, safe, and sanitary condition.
· Meeting medication documentation and supervision standards as per East House guidelines.
Physical Demands
· Job frequently requires sitting, handling objects and paperwork, work with a computer and communicating with others both verbally and in written format.
· Job involves occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs., walking, standing and reaching.
· Finger dexterity to a level that allows the ability to operate a telephone and computer keyboard.
· Hearing needed to a level that enables one to hear normal conversation.
· Visual requirements to the level of being able to read documents and a computer screen.
· Ability to read and interpret policies, procedures and various other information.
· Ability to maintain emotional control under stressful situations.
Working Conditions:
· Responds to crises and emergencies during on-duty hours.
· Must be available for work on weekends and holidays.
· Position requires occasional travel in Monroe County and occasional transportation of clients.

Requirements
Education & Experience
REQUIREMENTS:
+ Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
+ Minimum of 2 years' experience in human services.
+ Valid NYS motor vehicle license with a safe and clean driving record.
+ Ability to use personal vehicle for work purposes.
Licensure/Certifications
+ Narcan training (required for OASAS licensed/funded programs). **Can we trained upon hire.
Other Skills/Knowledge/Experience
+ Effective written and oral communication skills
+ Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with culturally diverse clients, staff and community service providers.
+ Basic Computer Literacy as evidenced by the ability to go online and conduct basic searches, check his/her email account, create and send email with an attachment and use simple email features.
+ Can open spreadsheets and word processing documents to read and make simple edits.
+ Microsoft Word skills as evidenced by the ability to produce basic business letters and simple tables and charts; as well as check spelling, set tabs, change page orientation, sort, save, open and organize electronic files.
Salary Description
$19-$19.50
