Location: Farmingdale, NY Category: Professional Posted On: Fri Aug 30 2024 Job Description: The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) is a state-operated program that provides historically disadvantaged students the opportunity to attain a college education. The EOP at Farmingdale State College (FSC) has a long-standing history of dedicated service toward the mission of guiding, supporting, and advocating on behalf of its students as they pursue excellence within higher education. Once admitted to the College via EOP, students have access to a myriad of services including but not limited to academic, pre-professional, and personal counseling; tutoring; workshops; advocacy; and supplemental financial aid. The EOP Counselor is responsible for conducting individualized counseling sessions to an assigned caseload of students focused on academic, financial, personal, and/or pre-professional matters. The counselor will provide guidance, support, and advocacy as appropriate to help students meet their full potential and excel within higher education. They must also monitor student progress and maintain all data and updates pertinent to the student. The counselor will also assist in providing group services including workshops and special events, and implementing the summer orientation program for incoming freshmen. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the program director, as appropriate. Duties and Responsibilities: + Provide one-on-one and/or group counseling to students enrolled in the program. + Provide academic coaching, study skills, and soft skill development to program students. + Guide students in maintaining satisfactory academic progress. + Provide career and transfer advisement to program students. + Participate in the pre-freshman summer program. + Create and conduct workshops for program students. + Maintain logs of daily counseling activities. + Submit periodic or semester reports as required by the Director. + Establish and maintain records on students' performance. + Participate in campus/community activities that involve EOP students. + Assist with the recruitment of incoming students. Some occasional evenings and weekends may be required in support of special projects and events. Job Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: + Bachelor's Degree. + Experience in at least one of the following: academic advising, career development, course-scheduling, teaching financial literacy, social work, or school counseling. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: + Master's Degree is strongly preferred in Counseling, College Student Personnel, Social Work, or Psychology. + A minimum of 3 years of relevant, direct work experience with underrepresented college students within an opportunity program, or other program with a similar mission on a college campus. + Education and or experience providing personal, academic, financial, or career counseling to students in a postsecondary setting. + Knowledge of the history, purpose, and goals of EOP and the advisement needs of the student population. + Knowledge of the SUNY system, financial aid process, first-year experience programming, and general resources available to students within higher education. + Ability to work with students from historically disadvantaged and culturally diverse backgrounds. + Strong intrapersonal and interpersonal written and oral communication skills. + Creative, organized, and motivated individual interested in student development. + Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office software (specifically, Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and ability to use Banner, as well as the ability to stay current with and embrace emerging office technologies.
