Counter-IED Training Device Specialist

Amentum is seeking a **Counter-IED Training Device Specialist** in Woodford, VA. After a period of approximately six months of on-the-job training, you will develop scenarios and design and construct training devices to accompany the scenario with minimal supervision. This is not assembly line work. Week to week, you will be be independently developing and constructing new devices. Device construction accounts for ninety percent of the workload and the remaining ten percent is spent working directly with customers.
**Essential Responsibilities include:**
+ Design and construct inert Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) for Counter-IED training. Devices range from simple, open (uncontained) devices to large scale problems integrated into vehicles, buildings, and shipping containers. This requires advanced knowledge of the construction and function of hazardous devices including Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and nuclear attributes. Facilitate Counter-IED training at the individual and team level for public safety bomb technicians and military Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) operators. This includes conceiving realistic scenarios based upon real-world events, current threat doctrine, or potential threats related to evolving technologies. In the context of IED training aid (IEDTA) development, applies advanced technical knowledge to solve unusually complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely be referencing manufacturers' manuals or similar documents including determining the location and construction of circuitry, isolating malfunctions, and incorporating existing circuitry into design and construction of IEDTA.
+ Design, prototype, and assemble circuits which provide function for IEDTA, including incorporation of commercially available products used as switches, power sources, and anti-intrusion devices. This includes using circuit design software for prototyping, testing, and commercial production.
+ Safely and effectively use tools such as digital multi-meter, soldering station, and hand/power tools common to a workshop.
+ Install IEDTA to accommodate training scenarios in vehicles, sheds, shipping containers, and other logical presentations. This includes the ability to incorporate features of the containers in IEDTA design such as use of vehicle wiring/power.
+ Lift materials, equipment, and completed IEDTA for movement, storage, and installation in areas such as sheds, large trucks, vehicle trunks, etc. IEDTA commonly weigh in excess of fifty pounds.
+ Effectively communicate with team members about designs, scenarios, work priorities, and training schedules.
+ Perform general workshop duties and tasks supporting upkeep of facilities. Work may be reviewed by the Supervisor for general compliance with accepted practices.
**Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required:**
+ ​Graduate of Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal or FBI Hazardous Devices School or minimum TEN (10) years of experience conducting counter-IED training to military/law enforcement EOD units, including construction of IEDTA.
+ **Must have an Active Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to maintain a Secret Clearance.**
+ Demonstrated ability in electronics, carpentry, metal working, and small-scale fabrication.
+ Ability to reliably report for work in Woodford, VA with a typical work schedule of four ten-hour days (M-Th).
+ Ability to participate in occasional travel, not more than six weeks per year.
+ Must be able to lift 50 lbs. frequently.
**Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:**
Work is performed in a shop environment that is moderately lighted, heated and ventilated, is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close placed and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts in shop area. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance. Frequently lifts items weighing up to 50 pounds. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud or may include challenging conditions.
