Through the Scaling Up Renewable Energy (SURE) program, USAID and Tetra Tech help partner countries power economies, meet international climate commitments, and strengthen energy security via private investment in, and competitive procurement of, clean electricity. USAID is supporting the Government of Egypt in the Nexus for Water, Food, and Energy (NWFE) Energy Pillar (N-EP). The one-to-two-year Bridge Support for the USAID Energy Activity will advance technical assistance needs in areas identified in the USAID energy assessment, build relationships in the energy sector and pilot first technical assistance activities. Activities could range from advancing grid modernization and flexibility for the integration of renewable energy (RE) and other advanced technologies, support the development of open, transparent, procurement of renewable energy and markets, advance planning for the adoption of RE and advanced energy technologies to support the deployment of demand-side solutions and distributed energy resources.
Tetra Tech is seeking a short-term Country Coordinator Specialist to support the implementation of this new USAID activity. The Country Coordinator must have the ability to legally work in Egypt. The role is an independent consultant role which can be either full- or part-time, and hiring is contingent upon USAID approval. Country Coordinator Specialist will:
Manage day-to-day tasks in coordination with the Tetra Tech home office in Arlington, VA to ensure successful completion of activities Be the key local point of contact for USAID/Egypt Map and engage with stakeholders, including attending project meetings and calls Manage logistical coordination, preparation, and planning for project events Lead the development of knowledge products and preparation of communication pieces Develop work plans for activities Support the Tetra Tech lead for the Egypt activity in quarterly and annual technical project reporting, including collection of performance indicators Coordinate and manage activity tasks with technical team to ensure work plans are implemented Support local and international teams in data collection and delivery of technical products. Proven ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment Ability to travel in-countryMinimum qualifications
Minimum of bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) in engineering, law, economics, or related field At least 10 years of recent experience working in the energy sector, including in the electricity sector and at least 5 years in Egypt Experience designing and implementing work plans for energy projects, including managing teams, carrying out field work, producing written deliverables, and managing stakeholders Technical knowledge about Egypt’s electricity systems and command of Egypt’s electricity legal and regulatory framework Experience with at least two of the following: power sector regulation, energy master plans, competitive renewable energy tenders, renewable energy development, energy market reforms Prior working relationships with Egypt’s main government energy institutions and private sector energy companies Strong project management and coordination skills Fluent in oral and written English and Arabic communication.Valued qualifications
