POSITION SUMMARY The Marathon Petroleum Salt Lake City Refinery is seeking qualified applicants to fill full-time Pipefitter/Welder positions at our Salt Lake City, Utah refinery. The Pipefitter/Welder will support the operation of the facility through properly maintaining various types of fixed equipment. They will be responsible for the removal, repair, and installation of equipment associated with pressure vessels, heat exchangers, furnaces/heaters, valves, and piping systems throughout the facility. *** This position does not include relocation. *** KEY RESPONSIBILITIES + The Pipefitter/Welder is responsible for the maintenance and repair of refinery equipment including, but not limited to, all process units, tank farms, buildings, and yards. + Use of various tools and equipment to assemble/disassemble flanges, blind/de-blind equipment, demo/install piping, pull/replace valves, clean/repair heater burners, pull and clean filters/screens, torque/tension joints, make-up/fabricate tubing and threaded piping, and perform hydrostatic testing. + Ensure that equipment is safely prepared for Maintenance and all documents are in order prior to starting work. + Ensure all work is performed in a safe and environmentally compliant manner, adhering to site Health and Safety processes and Environmental regulations. + Perform work per applicable technical standards and specifications (Marathon, Industry, or Manufacturer). + Able to read and understand schematics and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs). + Able to field-measure and draw isometric sketches for piping layout and fabrication. + Responsible for safely operating various types of mobile equipment, including forklifts, and aerial lifts. + Able to work as a team and collaborate to accomplish work efficiently and to high quality standards. + Effective verbal and written communication and reporting on work being performed. + Expected to train on Exchanger craft, including knowledge of exchanger types, exchanger-specific tooling, and procedures. + Completes routine paperwork and work orders regarding the repair of process equipment. + Must be able to wear the appropriate PPE and physically perform the job duties which include working in an outdoor process facility under the direction of the Maintenance Department. + Other related duties as assigned by Supervisor. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Minimum (Required) Qualifications + High school diploma or equivalent. + A valid driver’s license is required. + Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future + Five plus years industrial/military experience in a metals trade (i.e., Boilermaker, Pipefitter, Plumber, etc.) + Experience welding pipe required. + Experience Measuring cutting and installing screw pipe required. + Must be able to pass 6G Weld Certification Test. + Able to work off-hour duties such as plant shutdowns and routine on-call support. Preferred Qualifications: + Current SMAW, GTAW carbon steel and alloy weld qualifications preferred. + Experience running / bending stainless & copper tubing preferred. + Experience in welding under ASME boiler and pressure vessel code Sect 1 and 8 and ASME B-31.3 will be beneficial. Physical Requirements + All Maintenance Craft positions work in various environmental conditions in the refinery. This may include but is not limited to working indoors, such as in maintenance shops, outdoors in open areas, process units, at heights and in confined spaces with or without respiratory protection and limited mobility. Must be able to stand, walk, lift, and carry 50-pounds. Safety + Pipefitters/Welders work in a safety-sensitive environment and must successfully complete a rigorous pre-employment assessment process, drug/alcohol and medical screenings, and a background check. Schedule + Pipefitters/Welders work a four-ten schedule and must be available for overtime as required.
