Crane Assembly Technician
The Crane Assembly Technician is responsible for the mechanical and electrical assembly of overhead bridge cranes. This role requires experience in assembling components to a print or manufacturer's instructions, knowledge of 480/240 VAC systems, low voltage wiring, and the ability to perform basic function testing of crane components by connecting to live power. The successful candidate will possess strong problem-solving skills, flexibility in task management, and demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement. Position Roles & Responsibilities + Mechanical Assembly: Assemble mechanical components of overhead bridge cranes according to engineering drawings, schematics, and manufacturer's instructions. + Electrical Assembly: Install and wire, control panels, cabling, motors, radios systems, and low voltage accessories, ensuring all connections meet safety and operational standards. + Painting: Apply protective coatings and paint to structural steel, crane girders, and other fabricated components + Function Testing: Connect crane components to live power for basic function testing, verifying correct operation and troubleshooting issues as needed. + Reading and Interpretation: Interpret and follow assembly prints, schematics, and manufacturer's instructions to ensure accurate and precise assembly of crane components. + Problem Solving: Utilize logic and reasoning skills to address assembly challenges, make suggestions when information is missing, and develop unique solutions for non-standard tasks. + Flexibility: Adapt to varying day-to-day tasks and job roles, contributing to different aspects of the crane assembly process as needed. Skills and Experience + Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical and electrical assembly, preferably with overhead bridge cranes or similar equipment. + Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to work with a variety of hand and power tools. + Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and manufacturer's instructions. + Ability to operate overhead cranes and forklifts safely and effectively. + Familiarity with function testing of electrical components and systems. + Competent in problem-solving and logical reasoning to overcome assembly challenges. + Ability to work independently or as part of a team, with a strong attention to detail. + Relevant electrical or mechanical certifications are a plus. Work Environment Considerations + Work in shop environments under various working conditions depending on assignment. + Overtime and weekend work occasionally required. + Some heavy lifting with the ability to lift up to 50lbs. + Comfortable working in various positions, including standing, kneeling, and bending for extended periods.
