Crane Operator

Areas of Responsibility

Load and unload bundles from trucks using crane Inspect and adjust crane mechanisms and lifting accessories in order to prevent malfunctions and damage Move levers (with both hands), depress foot petals (with both feet) and turn dials to operate crane, or other moving equipment for lifting, moving and placing loads Lubricate crane parts in adherence with manufacturer and company recommendations Maintain contact with Production Supervisors and co-workers General housekeeping during down time to include shovelling, sweeping, and hosing to clean area Adhere to all mill environmental, health and safety guidelines, policies, and practice Performing other related duties as assigned

Skills & Ability

Physical ability to perform assigned crane related tasks: prolonged sitting, walking, standing, and bending Physical ability to perform assigned tasks (lift, push and pull 50+ pounds) Skilled in crane operations or comparable heavy machinery operations experience Complete understanding of log loading/handling equipment to include but not limited to the one-bite log loader, wheel loader, crane, chipper and on-site forklifts Working knowledge of the log yards layout and proper log sorting ability Strong verbal communication skills Understand oral and written communications, both general and technical. Communication skills Provide clear instructions/directions. Problem solving and troubleshooting skills. Occasionally walk on slippery or uneven surfaces Suitable agility and stamina to permit negotiation of stairs, elevated work platforms (at or above 50 feet), ladders and walking on uneven terrain Stay in seated position at approximate 30-degree angle for long periods of time Work in all types of weather conditions

Education & Qualification:

Preferred 1 year of experience in crane operation in construction, manufacturing, or repair setting At least 2 years of experience in a manufacturing or similar environment operating heavy equipment At least 18 years of age High School Diploma or GED
