REQ ID: 126505
JOB TITLE: Creative: Technical - Undergraduate
POSTING END DATE: 28/02/2025
START DATE: 07/07/2025
PROGRAMME DURATION: 12 months
LOCATION: Gaydon

Hybrid working is potentially available, depending on the area and manager.  JLR is a multi-site business and you’ll be required to spend time working with different departments at several locations.

Your placement year at university could not have come at a more exciting time.  An undergraduate scheme at JLR is specifically designed to prepare you for a successful, long-term career with us. Surrounded by an innovative and dedicated team of industry experts, you’ll apply your learning and satisfy your curiosity for what’s possible. Arrive curious. Discover opportunity.

On successful completion of the undergraduate programme, you will be considered for a place on one of our graduate programmes. If you are offered a place, you will be informed shortly after completing your placement. You would then join the graduate programme in the September of the year in which you graduate.

Creative Technical Undergraduate

The beautiful shapes, sweeping curves and luxurious styles of our vehicles would be nothing without our technical accuracy and attention to craftsmanship. As part of the Creative Technical group, you’ll help to produce finishes that grab attention wherever they’re seen, while working at the heart of one of our key teams.

Surfacing

Class A surfacing brings our design intentions to life, so they can be seen and touched anywhere on the vehicle. You’ll join a technical Computer Aided Design (CAD) modelling team solving geometric problems to deliver best-in-class, crafted optical quality solutions for our Class A production surfaces across all new vehicle programmes. The Interior and Exterior teams form part of the Digital Surface Creative Hub in Vehicle Design and are the only teams in the business authorised to create and author the Class A production surface geometry. As a key part of the design and engineering development process, the teams interact with many areas of expertise internally and externally across the Creative Chapter.

During this programme, you will receive training in ICEM Surf software for A-Class geometry creation. You will then work in a small surfacing project team to contribute to the delivery of high-quality A-class geometry across vehicle interiors and exteriors, working closely with designers and engineers to produce feasible production releases. At the same time, you will increase your knowledge and networks by participating in placements with our interfacing departments and grow your surface engineering skills as you take on greater responsibility for component design and release.

As you grow your skills in Class A surfacing, you will solve problems to deliver modern luxury production surfaces across all future core and SC programmes. What’s more, your personal growth will significantly strengthen the expertise of your niche team as you help us shape product development through innovative design and engineering.

WHAT’S REQUIRED

You will need to be on track to achieve at least a 2.2 degree in transport or automotive design or digital 3D design.

For Digital Design this also includes degrees in Interaction design, Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Product or Industrial design. VFX, Game design, 3D visualisation and Animation degrees.

In addition, you will need to have a real passion for problem-solving, the curiosity to understand business challenges, and deliver innovative solutions. You will also need to have strong numerical and interpersonal skills, as well as the confidence to champion new initiatives.

Please note that our undergraduate placement opportunities are open only to penultimate-year students (those who will be returning to their final year of study or on an integrated master’s after their placement with us). All our undergraduate programmes have a fixed start date, commencing 7th July 2025.

You will be applying your curiosity and creativity every day as you begin to hone your skills for a successful, impactful career. You own your development, and only you can make it happen. We’ll be right by your side in your pursuit of exceptional, and we’ll give you all the encouragement and support you need.
