Job Overview:

The Creative Arts Therapist provides Movement Therapy and therapeutic groups to child and adolescent patients in the Partial Hospitalization Programs. This role is part of an interdisciplinary team and will also assist in the monitoring of the therapeutic milieu.

The Creative Arts Therapist will help their clients express their feelings and confront difficult emotions by using visual artwork activities such as assessing client needs, developing therapy materials, organizing therapeutic sessions, facilitating artistic expression, and helping clients to explore their works of art.

The Creative Arts Therapist is dedicated to helping children of all ages with their mental, physical, and emotional health by incorporating art making into the patient s counseling sessions.

Qualifications:

Required:

Bachelors or Master s degree in a Creative Arts Modality (Art, Dance, Music, or Recreation Therapy)At least one year of experience working with a SED Child/Adolescent population

Scheduling Requirements:

School year hours: Monday-Friday 8-4pm, with one day being 11-7pmSummer hours: Monday-Friday 8-4pmFT

Essential Functions:

Participates in the management of crisis situations as directedParticipates in treatment planning meetings, program participant/staff meetings, group and community meetings as requiredContributed to the formation, carrying out, and updating of treatment plans elaborated by the staffReports behavioral and/or physical changes in condition to program director and according to policy and procedureMaintains open channels of communication with associates, participants and families; works multi-family group as appropriateAssesses social, perceptual, physical skills, and recreative resources according to discipline specific standardsTeaches relaxation techniques, when indicatedUtilizes knowledge of resources to assist in leisure time planningParticipates in the management of the daily therapeutic program and collaborates in planning for special programmingProvides group therapy with appropriate content for the individuals in the groupDevelops treatment interventions both group and individual oriented, utilizing an integrated theoretical framework to:Elicit expression, communication, and response from verbally defended clientsIncrease self-understanding and insight-development through exploration of symbolic content in creative arts modalityDiagnostically elicit information not readily available through verbal assessment proceduresDevelop self-esteem, problem-solving skills, organization, and risk-taking through creativityIntegrate and sequence the creative processResolve conflict through use of creative art modality
