Credit Review Manager - High Volume Commercial & Retail
**Overview:** The Credit Review Team serves on the third line of defense relative to credit risk. The Credit Review Manager is responsible for the day-to-day activities of an assigned working group and for supporting the Associate Director and Director in directing the implementation of the Department's Business Plan, in a manner consistent with Credit Review strategies. The Credit Review Manager ensures appropriate coverage is achieved and oversees the continuous review of the Bank's High Volume Commercial and Retail loan portfolios to determine the likelihood of improvement/deterioration and degree of loss exposure or impact. The Credit Review Manager maintains the consistent and uniform application of the Bank's credit policy; escalates credit problems and makes appropriate recommendations for action to management. **Primary Responsibilities:** + Effective execution of portfolio reviews including scoping strategy and risk assessment. + Ensure team is equipped to evaluate the appropriate aspects of credit risk framework. + Communicate regularly and coordinate activities with business line (1st & 2nd) management regarding loans reviewed. + Plan and allocate resources to effectively manage and distribute responsibilities to achieve the appropriate loan coverage in accordance with established procedures and timelines. + Provide leadership and guidance to the Review Officers on the larger, more complex problem relationships, as well as resolving risk rating conflicts. + Direct and assist with special projects as assigned and perform additional duties and responsibilities as required. + Assist the Associate Director and Director to develop and execute strategies to provide better insight into portfolio risk. + Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company's Credit Risk Framework. Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management. + Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand. **Scope of Responsibilities:** As part of the third line of defense, the Credit Review Manager has an in depth understanding of credit policies and procedures, as well as large and more complex loan exposures. The Credit Review Manager is responsible for maintaining timely communication between the department management and staff on portfolio and personnel issues that may arise; has strong interpersonal skills necessary for business partner relationships within and outside the organization; provides appropriate documentation and support when assessing the High Volume Commercial and Retail problem loan portfolios; escalates credit problems and makes recommendations for action to management to ensure timely recognition of the appropriate risk ratings with proper accrual designation, reserve and/or charge-off as warranted. In addition, the Credit Review Manager assists in setting policy or developing and overseeing the implementation of procedures or controls within the department and provides direct support to the Associate Director. **Supervisory/ Managerial Responsibilities:** Manage and lead a team of Credit Review Officers inclusive of coaching and development. Fosters a positive work environment through engagement and collaboration. Responsible for staff recruitment, performance management and making recommendations related to performance, promotions and overall employee relations. **Education and Experience Required:** Bachelor's degree in a business related curriculum and a minimum of 7 years' experience in commercial or consumer credit, lending, residential mortgage, finance, accounting, audit and/or other relevant experience, OR 11 years' higher education and/or working experience, including 7 years' experience in commercial or consumer credit, lending, residential mortgage, finance, accounting, audit, and or other relevant experience. Minimum of 3 years' supervisory experience and/or work leadership experience. Proven experience mentoring, coaching and training others. Experience leading project initiatives. Demonstrated ability in decision-making and communication skills. Working knowledge of credit risk management techniques, credit regulatory guidance, and bank credit administration. Experience with spreadsheet, word processing, presentation and database software. Ability to analyze and understand financial data (ranging in scope from simple to highly complex), collateral documentation and other credit issues.In depth understanding of credit policies and guidelines.Ability to multi-task and prioritize, as well as to set and meet deadlines. In depth understanding of credit policies and guidelines. **Education and Experience Preferred:** MBA preferred. Credit Review or Loan Review experience. The pay range for this position is $136,787.30 - $227,978.83 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation. The range listed above corresponds to our national pay range for this role.
