Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Crew & Equipment Design Engineer or Principal Crew & Equipment Design Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This role will be located in Melbourne, FL.
In this role, you will be responsible for developing, modifying, and maintaining aircraft Crew & Equipment design configurations using current engineering practices and standards.
Responsibilities and duties:
Crew Systems/Cockpit design and and/or Equipment Integration associated with one or more of the following areas:
Escape Systems
Transparencies and Canopies
Cockpit Furnishings, Interiors, and Lighting
Pilot Controls and Displays
Operator workstations, consoles, displays, and equipment racks
Aircraft Secondary Structure
Overall cockpit and workstation layouts, including integration of human factor aspects
Develop mockups, and simulators
Perform trade studies, determine results and conclusions, and make recommendations
Identify and Manage Risks, Issues and Opportunities
Perform design related tasks utilizing the NX and Teamcenter tool suite, including integrating components into various types of aircraft applications, coordinating and collaborating with relevant stakeholder to ensure robust and maintainable configurations are produced, and applying GD&T requirements to models to ensure producibility and manufacturability of designs.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter, well-organized with good problem-solving skills, able to perform effectively despite concurrent work tasks and will possess strong communication, leadership, team coordination and mentoring skills. The successful candidate will also thrive in an aircraft development design environment and be able to react and quickly adapt to changes in aircraft configuration.
This role may be filled as a Crew & Equipment Design Engineer or Principal Crew & Equipment Design Engineer based on the qualifications outlined below.
Basic Qualifications:
Crew & Equipment Design Engineer: Bachelor’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 2 years of engineering experience OR Master’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) and 0 years of engineering experience
Principal Crew & Equipment Design Engineer: Bachelor’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of engineering experience OR Master’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) and 3 years of engineering experience
Prior experience with aircraft crew/cockpit design, interiors, or mission equipment/hardware integration
Prior experience with 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) software applications
Your ability to obtain and/or transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance, and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related discipline
Familiarity with NX CAD software and Teamcenter PLM
Familiarity with NX Human Modeling
Cockpit flight controls, crew accommodations, mission systems and subsystems interfaces
Familiarity with JPATS 1-8 aircrew anthropometric sizes
Familiarity with aircraft rack design, shock isolation, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) equipment integration, and mission line replaceable unit (LRU) mounting/integration
Familiarity with implementing design/integration considerations associated with size, weight, power, and cooling requirements for aircraft equipment
Experience with the military airworthiness certification process using MIL-HDBK-516
Experience interpreting component detail drawings, specifications, installation drawings, and test procedures

Salary Range: $77,200.00 - $115,800.00Salary Range 2: $95,300.00 - $142,900.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
