The primary function of this role is to provide leadership to the operating crew and ensure all safety, environmental, quality, and production targets are met during the shift. This position will also serve as key on-site contact for site emergencies during off-shift, weekend, and holiday plant operations. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to supporting growth initiatives and collaborating and communicating across functions.
Core Responsibilities:
Lead efficient and effective plant operation. This involves maintaining oversight of ongoing operations; recognizing undesired operating conditions or potentially undesirable operating trends; and following up with the appropriate personnel to facilitate timely and accurate resolutionProvide effective leadership by actively utilizing tools such as standard work to drive KPI’s, performance of operations personnel and overall process performanceDirect crew personal as needed to ensure critical functions are covered and flex employees around plant as neededResponsible for management and resource allocation regarding planned and emergency maintenance activitiesCoordinate with area leads (Loading, Refinery, Utilities, Wet Mill) to prioritize work for operating crewEnsure that the operational directions from management or leads are implementedComplete shift rounds - all control rooms and other identified critical points a minimum of twice a shiftProvide accurate documentation in shift summaries regarding key events that occurred during shift.Utilize current company reporting tool to make incident reports and start investigations when requiredConduct a daily Tier 1 turnover meeting and participate in Tier 2 meetingResponsible for approving time for crew in KronosEnsure associate coverage is managed for call-ins and vacation requestBeing aware of and support the facilitation of any project work during shift (supporting engineering work)Read, understand, and execute the instructions of the area leadsCommunicate the key process issues affecting safety, quality, and production during shift at the turnover meetingFacilitate any planned maintenance items as well as prioritize any necessary maintenance break–insUnderstand safety requirements and ensure that your crew and others on site are conforming to the requirementsComplete writing of permits for hazardous jobs (hot work in combustible dust, line break, etc.…) as requiredHave sufficient knowledge to recognize the alarm system and take appropriate corrective actionEnsure all daily regulatory inspections are completed as requiredBe responsible for ensuring waste treatment loading is minimized and waste levels are within the guidelines of the sanitary districtContact sanitary district treatment plants to notify them of abnormal waste levelsEnsure site quality and GMP policies are followedContact customer service, logistics and order coordination as needed to resolve loading problemsDuring the off shifts, ensure that quality testing is completedHave sufficient knowledge of product safety and product code systems to take appropriate action as requiredWork with maintenance at night/weekends to keep accurate documentation, along with locating of parts in SAP and on the shelf to assist in repair effortsEnsure accurate troubleshooting steps are conductedAs required, give assistance to field operators in dutiesUse root cause analysis tools to improve the processBe a member of plant committees and teamsLook for opportunities to improve processes and share best practices with other shift coordinators and leadsDevelop skill progression plan for crew members to meet individual advancement requirements and ensure adequate cross training to develop crew strengthsPerform yearly evaluations for crew members and hold crew members accountable for job duties and administer corrective actionsLead regular crew meetings such toolbox talks and information sessionsCapability to manage a manufacturing environment, including capability to perform effectively in high stress, emergency and crisis situations.Strong analytical skillsExperience with project management using best practices to implement and sustain solutions Ability to communicate across functional lines and at all levels: learn and apply Ingredion’s GMP, Quality and Safety standards; train and coach others to improve performance.Desire to build consensus and foster positive relationships.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Qualified candidates will have:
Knowledge of corn wet milling manufacturing operations, processes and customer base and refinery operations strongly desiredBachelor’s degree with preference in engineering or related field and 1-4 years of experience in manufacturing environment desired or, 5+ years in corn wet milling operationsAbility to lead a team of direct reportsKnowledge/experience in using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and/or other software tools.Ability to present shift reports, lead meetings, and review/write SOP’s.Must be willing to work a rotating shift and work overtimeWe are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company.
