Crime Analyst, Level I
Job Description * Applicants must be permanent in the title of Crime Analyst, reachable on the current civil service list, or have filed for the recent civil service exam. The Internal Affairs Bureau (IAB) is dedicated to preserving integrity, which is critical to the function of the Police Department and fighting corruption within the NYPD. The department cannot successfully serve the public without maintaining the public's trust. IAB helps to ensure that trust by detecting, investigating, and bringing to justice the small number of New York City police officers and civilians who engage in misconduct and corruption. The position consists of (but is not limited to) the following job duties: - Maintaining highly complex computer applications to retrieve and organize highly sensitive data into analysis; - Reporting clearly and accurately, in an efficient manner, translate their analysis into self-authored reports for review by executive staff; - Using independent initiatives to automate tasks, develop statistical resources and devise alternative methodologies for completion of tasks; ability to create tables, charts and graphs which visualizes data analysis. WORK LOCATION AND HOURS 315 Hudson Street, NYC, NY 0900X1700 Hrs. Qualifications 1. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research or a closely related field; and one year of satisfactory full-time experience in the analysis and/or research of data related to crime, criminals, criminal intelligence, and/or other social sciences in a police, judicial, or other criminal justice setting; or 2. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research or a closely related field; and a Master’s degree from an accredited college in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research or a closely related field. SPECIAL NOTE: To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, three additional years of full time qualifying experience as described in (1) above; or two years of full time qualifying experience as a Crime Analyst Assignment Level I. SPECIAL NOTE: To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, five additional years of full time qualifying experience as described in (1) above, or two years of full time qualifying experience as a Crime Analyst Assignment Level II.
