CRIMINAL INVESTIGATOR
Summary You will serve as a CRIMINAL INVESTIGATOR in the Provost Marshal Office/Marine Corps Police Department, Operations Section of MARINE CORPS BASE. Responsibilities You will conduct difficult and complex misdemeanor and felony level investigations of alleged or suspected violations of federal criminal laws. You will recognize, explore and exploit leads to gather facts or evidence. You will analyze and evaluate investigative results, organizes them in a logical manner and prepare clear, comprehensive, cohesive and concise reports, ensuring compliance with investigative standards, guidelines and polices. You will complete laboratory requests and prepare evidence for transmittal to the crime laboratory, for forensic analysis. You will conduct interviews of victims and witnesses, perform routine interrogations of suspects, develop facts or resolution in the face of denials, and prepare typed statements or results of interview documentation, You will obtain documentary/ physical evidence and recognize sources of information distinguishing between relevant and irrelevant information or evidence and the violations committed. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: 1) Obtaining documentary/ physical evidence and recognizing sources of information distinguishing between relevant and irrelevant information or evidence and the violations committed; 2) Recognizing, developing, and presenting evidence to reconstruct events, sequences, time elements, relationships, responsibilities, legal liabilities, and conflicts of interest; 3) Completing laboratory requests and preparing evidence for transmittal to the crime laboratory, for forensic analysis; and 4) Interacting with victims, witnesses, commands, etc. using tact, diplomacy, courtesy and patience. GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties:1) Recording, identifying and maintaining integrity of all physical evidence until the case reaches its final disposition; 2) Conducting interviews, preparing reports and presenting findings in a clear logical and objective manner; 3) Completing laboratory requests and preparing evidence for transmittal to the crime laboratory, for forensic analysis; and 4) Interacting with victims, witnesses, commands, etc. using tact, diplomacy, courtesy and patience. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Once hired, if the incumbent has not attended, he/she must A TIEND THE FIRST AVAILABLE United States Army Apprentice Special Agent Course (ASAC), or Federal Law Enforcement Training Center's (FLETC) Basic Criminal Investigator Course, or similar Federal criminal investigative course in the occupational series 1811. The preferred course is ASAC. The incumbent must successfully complete and graduate the course. Newly hired GS-1811 CID Agents must have favorable endorsement by the local PMO/MCPD Criminal Investigation Division, Provost Marshal/Police Chief (PM/PC), and the Head, USMC, CID, PSL, Security Division (PS), Plans, Policies and Operations (PPO), HQMC prior to hire. Must meet medical standards satisfactory for Police Officers in DOD 6055.0SM and NMCPHC-TM-OM6260. This position is subject to rotating shift work; subject to 24-hour recall and will maintain a 24-hour recall notification number and is required to respond per installation policy/SOP; subject to being interrupted from meal or other breaks while on duty. Failure to meet conditions of employment may result in disciplinary action or termination. FACTORS WORK ENVIRONMENT Administrative duties are primarily performed in an office environment. Work is occasionally performed where exposure to high temperature, dust, dirt, noise, cold, rain, etc. exists. Protective clothing may be required when investigative activities occur outdoors or in a hazardous material environment. Duty may require subjection to long periods of time at a surveillance site and working odd hours. This type of position may place the inducement in a potentially dangerous, volatile and/or harmful situation.
