Crisis Prevention Specialist - I/DD

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Residential Director/ Training Coordinator and Crisis Prevention Coordinator , the Crisis Prevention Specialist serves youth with profound I/DD Diagnosis, significant mental health diagnosis and significant medical needs. CPS provides a safe and secure environment, and applies agency approved methods of behavior modification including verbal de-escalation techniques, trauma informed care and physical intervention if needed. Shifts assigned may vary and change according to Agency needs. CPS may be required to work at various locations. EVENING AND WEEKENDS POSITION ONLY
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Completion of reports on critical incidents Record the activities and behaviors of clients in the CST log Exhibit an understanding of the phases of human development Document behaviors that are considered to be symptomatic or indicative of emotional, physical, or psychological distress Maintain a safe and secure environment for clients on campus and in group settings Respond to crises Maintain appropriate boundaries. Assess the situation and make determinations of safest alternative according to TCI protocol. Use verbal de-escalation techniques. Use safe and approved physical interventions, when necessary. Communicate with AOD Assist in supervising residents in sensory room Engage youth who may need a timeout from program Maintain compliance on all assigned training Attend staff meetings Demonstrate specialized training/expertise in the area of trauma informed care and crisis prevention techniques Performs other duties as assignedMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Five years’ experience in providing direct services to children with I/DD Demonstrate specialized training/expertise in the area of trauma informed care and crisis prevention techniques. Acceptable clearance checks for State Central Register, Driver license and fingerprinting as required by the program. This position requires successful completion of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training, which includes a written test and demonstration of the competency to perform physical restraints, as specified by the program and regulatory body. Additionally, staff must successfully complete all required TCI refreshers in order to maintain continued employment
