The transport Paramedic is a key member of the Critical Care (ICU), Emergency Department (E.D.), and demonstrates the highest quality of emergency/critical care standards of practice and commitment to safety. Cares for patients, prepare and compiles records, and process orders in the hospital setting under direction of nursing staff, by performing the following duties, supporting the nursing philosophy. May include weekends, holidays, day, evening, night and /or on-call hours. Participate as an active member of outreach by assisting with education classes both comprising and giving education to hospital staff and EMS agencies. Participates in Quality Improvement (Q.I) of the CCTT program as a whole. Perform other duties as assigned including floating to various units and facilities within Mercyhealth based on identified needs and clinical competency Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provides pre-hospital advanced life support care from the initial contact until patient care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility; maintains thorough patient care documentation (TraumaSoft/Epic) in a timely manner. Practices within his/her scope of practice as defined by the State of Illinois/Wisconsin and Mercyhealth. Maintains competency in knowledge and psychomotor skills by participating in ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences. Communicates educational needs to the program leadership. Provides patient care as assigned and per routine, according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies and procedures. Performs advanced skills and procedures as approved by Mercyhealth. Maintains documentation of required licensure, certifications, continuing education, and safety training, OSHA and HIPAA training, clinical rotations, and advanced procedures. Attends educational programs as required by the medical direct. Serves as a role model, educator and clinical resource. Participates regularly in departmental activities, simulation, projects and committees (to include research and publishing opportunities). Maintains awareness of current issues related to pre-hospital care through participation in professional activities, i.e., national, state legislative--elected or appointed. Acts as a preceptor and/or participates in on-boarding/orientation of new partners and students. Clearly communicates program goals and objectives. Knowledgeable in use and routine maintenance of all equipment and supplies used by Mercyhealth. Responsible for reporting medical equipment failures and taking initial steps to insure repair of equipment as directed. Maintains adequate supplies within program/ambulances to deliver patient care. Assist with the routine maintenance of the ambulance, equipment and facilities to ensure a clean, orderly, and professional appearance to insure rapid response to all transport requests. Functions as a CCTT ground team member by attending pre-call briefings and post-call debriefings. Assists in pre-call, i.e., radio, navigational, and weather observation activities. Complies with safety standards to assure safety of self, medical personnel, patient, and equipment. Conducts safety briefings as needed. Participates regularly in Mercyhealth meetings, activities, projects and committees (to include research and publishing opportunities). Participates in patient and referring institution follow-up and planned outreach marketing and education activities. Maintains a clean work and patient environment. Processes orders in an accurate and timely manner. Answers the telephone and call lights appropriately provides information or relays messages to patients and staff. Maintains and orders supplies- Including scanning, stocking and ordering new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies within departments/ambulances. Performs venipuncture, IV access, 12-lead acquisition, blood glucose analysis, and CPR as ordered/directed. Assists with airway management, chest tube placement, CVP, and splinting interventions/applications by gathering appropriate supplies needed for procedures. Floats to outlying Mercyhealth facilities (Janesville, Rockford, Walworth, Harvard) based on identified needs/staffing models. Directs visitors to patients' rooms. Maintains medical records of current patients. Processes patient charges and orders supplies as needed. Education and Experience Minimum three (2) years' (minimum of 4,000 hours) recent experience in a high volume 911 system and Advanced Life Support (ALS) experience. Preferred: five (5) years of experience. Previous Critical Care transport experience preferred. Certification and Licensure National Registry Certificate required Paramedic license in the State of practice is required. Dual State of Illinois and Wisconsin licensure required within 90 days. BLS/CPR required ACLS and PALS required within 30 days NIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800 and Hazmat within 90 days. EVOC Driving course completion within (3) months of hire. Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification required within (3) three months of hire. National Institute Healthcare Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required within (1) one year of hire. Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) within (3) months of hire. Specialty certification: CCP-C or equivalent required within two (2) years of hire. Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) attendance required within (1) year of hire. For those driving Mercyhealth vehicles: Maintain a valid driver's license. Have and maintain an acceptable driving record per Mercyhealth's HR.100 Fleet and Driver Safety policy. For those driving their personal vehicles: Maintain a valid driver's license and reliable transportation with proof of vehicle insurance when requested. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS • Passing the Motor Vehicle Report. • Illinois and Wisconsin Health Care Workers Background Check. • Must be able to follow written/oral instructions.
